B5 CD Player issue
 

Hi,
My CD player will not play any audio cds.

It reads ERR-1 regardless of the type of cd I play in it. I tried a cd cleaner, and it does the same thing. I bought it from someone with the same condition, so I do not know how long it has been broken for.

After some searching around, I have realized that this is a common problem without an easy fix.

If someone has a way to resolve this problem, please do let me know.


Otherwise, my two options are to

1. Buy an ipod

2. Buy the Phatnoise system

I had the same problem.....CD player seems to choose between CDs it likes and doesn't like. (on my B5 A4 1.8tq)

what I did is this:

I went to a local Future Shop and bought a CD laser lens cleaner....this is not a compact disc cleaner.... it's a compact disc that cleans the laser lens.
It has little brushes on it which scrape dirt off your laser lens.

put it in the Audi CD player(works for the CD changer as well). the CD player will give you that ERR 1 code again. Eject the cleaner CD and inser it again.
as the CD player tries to read the CD.....it spins it and cleans the lazer anyway. do this a few times. MAybe do it once a day over a period of a week.
it fixed the problem for me. now it reads any CD!
