ABS and E Break light flashing
I have a 99 a4 1.8T Q and the ABS light and E-Break lights are flashing what could be the reasons and how much should it cost to repair?

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
Hey well it is tough to say how much it will cost to fix, try finding someone with a vag-com that can read your codes. It could be a number of things, such as the abs module and also your brake sensors I am not sure if they came on the 99, it might just be a code that poped up and if its cleared its fine. It is really hard to say until you get the codes read!

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
As per my recent post "revving on its own--pls help!", I had that (among other problems) in an identical audi, same year. The $115 brake system diagnostic at the dealer ("Audi Downtown Toronto") revealed a defective ABS module. $650 for the module, $360 for labour, plus taxes! At that price I'll go without ABS (still legal without). I'm hoping to find out if a vag-com can terminate the ABS warning lights and beeps. Anyone know? Oddly, the engine diagnostic (scanned error codes) I also just had done listed no ABS errors (at least there were none on the printout they copied for me).

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
if those 2 lights are on usualy means the abs isnt working. the e brake light comes on at the same time but is flshing. Its doing the same thing to me but that because i took out the fuse for the abs :P

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
The vag-com can disable it but it requires a lot of other modifications to bypass the signal as well. Just get the codes read and I'll tell you what needs to be done. Ignoring the problem will only lead to very many other issues trust me I heard the story too many times

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
hmmm... can taking out the ABS fuse have any other effect on the car other than no ABS?

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
according to the wiring diagram on the newer models it seems like the ABS, EDL, ASR, EBD, ESP are linked somehow but I need to verify further as the lead wires come from the ABS module but there is no bypass for them to be powered otherwise that I can see so yeah it can effect other things. Here is a list of things down the line wired to the ABS module, I am not sure if these only provide the signal to the module or if the module controls them representing a computer distribution system:
ABS( Anti-Lock Brake system) EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) EBD (Electronic Brake Pressure Distribution) ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) SAS (Steering Angle Sensor) RRS (Rotation Rate Sensor) Steering Column Electronic System Control Module Brake Pedal Switch Which are all linked to the instrument cluster for a signal |
Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
P.S. I would get the codes read and fix it!!

Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
Hello!
My ABS and the ( ! ) warning lights are both on at the same time ( not blinking ). They stay on till I shut off the engine. But come on again after driving the car for a while. The dealer replaced the brake light switch a couple of days ago and hoping the warning lights will go away. But they come back on today! Just need your opinion before bringing my car back to the dealer..... The recommend replacing the ABS Pressure Switch next. Please help if you had similar issues before. Thanks! Loo |
Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
^ if your ebrake isnt blinking, possible that you still have your ebrake engaged........
There are rebuilds for the ABS module and it is NOT difficult to remove the ABS module out. You can purchase them for like approx. $200... I have the same issue and haven't come around to replacing it. http://www.modulemaster.com/en/Audi/A4_info.php I am sure that the ABS not working might affect your cruise control to not work and your ESP. |
Re: ABS and E Break light flashing
Ok I know this might be unrelated but when I had my subaru I had the same issue and it was actually a warning that my alternator was going. Replaced the alternator and error fixed
