96 A4 2.8 - How to remove headlight/change front turn signal?

After searching the web and different Audi forums for a few days I cannot seem to find solid instructions for removing the headlights in a 1996 Audi A4 2.8L in order to change the passenger side turn signal/indicator light. I find it hard to believe that there is no instructions available for such a simple procedure. If anyone knows where I could find a how to for this procedure (for this years model - not a 2002 avant) it would be greatly appreciated. If not perhaps someone could explain. I know there are two hex bolt that are easily removed from the top of the headlights but where are the hidden bolt/s and also how do you pull the unit out? Are there any tricks for safely pulling the unit out without breaking or damaging anything? Any photos would be very helpful too.

The problem I am trying to fix is my indicator light on the passenger side does not work. However, the turn signal light itself does. I believe it is only one light bulb with dual filaments. Hence, one of the filaments is burnt out and the bulb needs replacing. The interesting thing about this problem is I am experiencing the exact same problem on the passenger side taillight. That is the brake light works properly but the indicator light does not work (its only one bulb for both - dual filament).

Yesterday I replaced the bulb for the rear brake/indicator light (dual filament) but even with the new bulb the indicator light doesn't work. The brake light however continues to work properly. Is it possible that both indicator lights on the same side need to be working properly (not burnt out) to complete the circuit? Either they both work at the same time or neither will work? Or is it more likely that a relay that controls the passenger side indicator lights (front and back) is malfunctioning? Or are they completely independent problems?

Please help as I am finding this situation very frustration and need to get my car inspected very soon. Thanks in advance to all who lend a hand and hopefully the answers will save someone else some hassles in the future.

I do not believe you have to remove the whole headlight to change the turn signal bulb. It is a tight fit but I think you can reach your hand down there.

I'll see if I can find a walkthrough or something for you.

Maybe if you really squeeze your hand in you might be able on the drivers side, but on the passenger side there are definitely to many things in the way. I even tried taking apart some of the intake but still I couldn't get access.

Hi, i just bought a 1996 A4 and i'm having this EXACT same problem. Just wondering if you figured out what the exact cause was. I've searched all over Google for it and I've seen the same issue but no resolutions. Please let me know if it was a relay, the bulb, or what you were able to figure out. Thank you.

How about from the bottom? I think it's just a half turn once you're there. I'll dig through my manual for your model but I don't think there's much to it.
