3K RPM Vibration
This might be a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their Audi.
Whether accelerating or decelerating, whenever I hit 3000rpm, there is a nasty metallic vibration/noise. Its only at 3000 rpm, and disappears as soon as I pass that point.
It becomes significantly less noticeable once the car has sufficiently warmed up (after a few minutes of driving) but is very loud for the first 10 minutes of driving or so.
There isn't any change in performance, simply a loud metallic noise and vibration. Any idea what this could be?

It's in every gear, both accelerating and decelerating. So I'm pretty sure its not the transmission, but maybe something loose? That might be wishful thinking.
If I keep it right at about 3k rpm it keeps going.

I wonder if the heat shield has come loose and it causing a slight rattle when cold and stops when warm (since the metal may expand and become tighter). I had this problem with my previous BMW. Good news is that it's a cheap fix.
Possible motor mounts, trans mounts, clutch assembly, front to rear driveshaft cv's / center bearing? Need to hoist and inspect items like these... and might as well inspect all suspension joints & bushings and rear diff mounts while at it.
Well then, heres to hoping its the heat shield, and not something much more expensive.
I will probably go get it looked at right away. Thanks for the help though!

I had this happen on my previous Mazda also, exactly as described.
