2001 1.8T keeps killing mass air sensors

2001 A4 Quattro 5spd 1.8T AWM- keeps killing mass air sensors.

Iv had the car for a aprox. 6 months now, it has an apr stage 1 tune, turbo back exhaust and forge splitter valve. All regular maintenance has been done.

This car has gone through 4 mass air sensors in a 6 month stretch. First one was completely dead. (low circuit) second one the car ran with no codes but jerked around under acceleration. Third one wouldn't idle worth a but ran good when flooring it and the fourth one the car ran good for a while but now i keep getting a lean code < caused by the mass air. All of these sensors were purchased used but the odds of 4 bad sensors is very slim. I need to fix the problem before i spend the cash on a new sensor.

Is the extra air flow from more boost and being tuned killing my sensors or do i have bad wiring. like what the hell is going on here? Somebody PLEASE help!!

I do not have vag com just a generic obd2 code reader. I know i need to get vag and i will eventually.

This is just a guess but do you have the splitter diverted valve set to recirculate or vent off to atmosphere? The splitter valve is designed to do either or, or some of each. The bad results you are experiencing may be from unmetered air that the computer thinks should be there but is being vented to the atmosphere. I would try the splitter on full recirculate before you spend any more money on MAF's.

i do have the splitter valve and is set to vent to the atmosphere but, if what you describe were the case the, engine would be running rich because its adding fuel for air that it thinks is there but not. Venting to the atmosphere causes a rich condition not lean.

thanks for the interest in the thread tho

do you have a k&n or oiled media filter? if its over oiled it could be sucking the excess oil onto the maf hotwire killing it. If you do ditch it and get a reuseable dry type filter or get a stock airbox.

edit: On my b6 I have a revo stage 1 and a forge splitter and have had ZERO issued related to the splitter, mines set to vta. They all recirculate and just vent enough to make the pssh noise, take it off and count the adjustment clicks, on forge's website it tells you how many roughly to have if you're stock/stg1/stg2.
