2000 1.8tQ boost?

Hey everyone,My name is Jesse 33 male from P.A Sk I picked myself up a 2000 A4 from a family member for a steal of a deal.

I believe I am the 3 or fourth owner fun little car and right away I had the impression it was not bone stock, anyhoo today I installed a boost gauge and sure enough pulling anywhere from 15-close to twenty psi.I had found a vacuum leak and repaired it and now at idle about 20 psi of vac and 15-20 b oost..

so am I safe to assume it has a chip? exhaust is not crazy has a k&n filter and coil overs major work was done at 150k now has 180 should be good to go..

love the forum great job guys..:D

congrats on the car! The boost does seem a a little high, so it probably is chipped but i am not too sure since i drive the V6. Planning to do any other mods to it?

stock boost for a 2000 is 7psi. so you are chipped.

20 in HG is normal vacuum for a 1.8T with no leaks. You either have a chip, or someone has cranked the wastegate, or it has a boost controller, or diode mod on the MAP sensor. 15-20PSI peak is about what most chips run for boost, but any of the above can get you into that range.

A few ways to determine what chip you've got: if you have access to VAG-COM, you can download the various tuner's end-user software interface (Unisettings, APR V-Tune, etc.); or, you can contact the various tuners and give them your VIN – they'll have your car on file if you have their tune. Popular tuners in NA: APR, GIAC, Unitronic, Eurodyne, Revo, and several years ago Neuspeed and Upsolute.

Thanks again Cheba not aware of a boost controller I believe it is stock turbo and waste gate I hope it is not the diode mode but is a possibility my cruise control does not work nor does it change anything as stated by apr multi programs?? I will contact those mentioned above and see what I can find out..thanks..

Re: 2000 1.8tQ boost?

cant you also just open up where the ECU is stored and check from there? I was going to say that stock boost was at 7 or 8 PSI but wasnt sure if thats what it was when on limp mode.

Its very common on these cars that the cruise control dont work. If you're in school and have lots of debts, just focus on maintenance. Get all that out of the way before doing any mods. Unless if your suspension breaks, upgrade to coilovers or lowered springs and struts. Or if you end up replacing your brake lines due to cracks, replace it with stainless steel, and when you control arms need replacing, dont replace with OEM cuz it was poorly designed.
