Premature Battery Failure(s) S4

Hi,

Have an 2006 S4. Car gets driven periodically, and less in Winter.

In 2009 I had to replace the battery (new OEM Varta) as it was not accepting any charge. This week I was going to move the car, and a dead battery again - and due to the cold weather battery frooze: not good. So something is draining the battery pretty badly.

I have several cars, VW, BMW, AUDI, and a Dodge Cummins Truck all of the same age or slightly older and none of them have had this problem. Anyone out there that has a simmilar problem of a battery that drains too quickly?

Thanks!

Re: Premature Battery Failure(s) S4

Ok, picked up a new battery at Royal Oaks (Calgary) , and wanted to claim warranty.

No luck: we do not issue warranty on frozen batteries (parts manager). Well that is a chicken and egg situation.

So I explained that a fully charged battery will not freeze - it is only when you have 30% capacity left it freezes. So he told me that you should drive the car at least once a week - which we do ( twice a week in fact) - so your hooped if you are parking at the airport for 2 weeks vacation???? .

The best way is to remove the battery from the car if not driven he proceeded ... I wonder if he ever tried that with an S4??? Obviously, no real know how how to remove a battery and what a pain in the @ss that is. Yes I was cussing last night trying to remove this pregnant battery, - had to remove the stress bar to gain that extra room.

So I will do some testing the coming days, and see what the current clamp will tell me.

more to come.

P.S.
When you buy a new Audi there is no warranty on the battery, but if you buy a new battery there is!!!
