Recommended Winter Tire Size B8 S4

Hi To All,

New 2014 S4 owner, and picking up the car tomorrow. I have the 19" rims and need snow shoes asap.

What size tire would fellow B8 owners recommend? I have read that a 245/40/18 or 225/45/18 would both fit. Based on my experience the smaller the surface area the better grip.

Also, is there a section for insurance? Would be great for a general discussion and share of information.

Thanks to all!!

If you've got the 19" rims, they're going to be 8.5" wide. I just purchased a new set of Nokian Hakkapelita R2's for mine and the size I got was 255/35/19 (same as stock tire size).

The tire sizes you listed were for the 18" rim. Make sure you don't mess that up :D

I might go down to a 245/35/19 if you really wanted to, but that would strech the tire on the rim a bit more and I like having the extra rim protection in case I rub on a hidden curb.

I wouldn't recommend you go down to a 225 width tire because the S4 is a very heavy car (4000lbs) and a skinny tire is going to have issues effectively stopping the car on dry or wet pavement. If you're constantly driving in deep snow, like a rally car, then yeah, opt for the skinny tire, but if you're driving around the GTA, stick with 255 or 245.

i would recommend going to z-racing in Mississauga (right at the airport) I picked up a new set of rims and winter tires for $1200. great guys. I got the 245/40r18 set up and it has been awesome thus far.

As Zaider said, the car was not built for 225. you WILL have issues. If it was an A4 - maybe, but not the S4. stick with as close to stock or even slightly wider as it is a performance sedan.

This is the winter tire package I put on my 2013 S4 and I love them. Handle fantastic in all conditions. Don't even feel like snows on dry pavement :
