Vibration Issue

Re: Vibration Issue
kariya - who did you talk to at Uptown? I just spent $55 on balancing at it did nothing. I'll be taking it back to them because I can confidently say I don't recall having these vibration issues when I had winter tires on several months back
which other dealer did you go to for a 2nd opinion?

Re: Vibration Issue
OH9EH4: why did you have you tires balanced? were you having vibration issues?
charly: my friend has a similar problem with his a4, the problem has not been resolved.
I am sure a lot of ppl may be experiencing the same thing, just curious as to how people have been dealing with it or how many people go their problem resolved. If so, what was done and where?
I guess the simple solution is not to drive over 110, haha. But I find it unacceptable that we are not having any luck in correcting of this problem.
Maybe we all have to write Audi to make them aware of this.

Re: Vibration Issue
kariya: I got my tires balanced because I felt I was having vibration issues. At about 90-100+ I feel light vibration but then I feel it even more when I attempt to change lanes. If I shimmy the steering back and forth lightly on the highway I can feel the wheel vibrate in the hand (not sure if it's the steering wheel or the tires)... took it to Uptown and they said "yes, your wheels were not balanced properly..."
there is apparently a fix for the LOW SPEED shudder than you feel when turning your car in parking lot of on your garage. It's a new plastic house for the servotronic steering (currently it's a metal tube)...

Re: Vibration Issue
Hey guys,
I have an '09 A3 with quattro. I have been experiencing some vibration from the front driver side when I go pass 120 km/hr.
I brought it in to two dealerships; went to Uptown and they told me I had an out of round tire and recommended that I replace a tire plus get an alignment. I insisted that they swap a set of tire from one of their A3's to be sure its a tire issue. Anyway, I brought it back a second time, the manager took it out for a test driver and they retracted from their original diagnosis and he told me there is nothing wrong with the tires.
Not satisfied with the outcome, I went to another dealership, they told me my tires ARE out of round.
Needless to say, I will not be going back to Uptown in the future. Just wanted to see if anyone is having the same problem.

I know when I put different rims on, I needed to get a hub cap centric ring in order to perfectly align the rim in the centre - Otherwise you would feel vibration around 100- 120 km/hour.
I don't know much about cars so maybe someone else can chime in to give their 2 cents about this.

Re: Vibration Issue
I have stock 17 inch wheels on.
Wonivek: No I did not make sure they put on the tires properly. Quite frankly, if I have to watch them to make sure they put on tires properly, then should I be trusting my car with them?

Re: Vibration Issue
The tire will balance on the balance machine even when it's out of round, the only way to fix out of round tires is to either run with highest psi pressure indicated for the tire (not the car) or replace with a new one. When it's out of round, it means it's warped, low profile tire tend to have this problem more often than plushy sedan tire with high tire wall.
I do not recommend running your tire with more than 40 psi pressure. With higher psi, it strech the tire a little bit, thus makes it rounder.
Ask the dealer to replace the tire, pay for it, if that takes care of the problem, then file claim with Audi Canada or the tire manufacture. Most tire come with warranty.
First call the tire manufacture and ask about the warranty on the same model tire, and then ask them how to file a warranty claim.
kariya, I would highly recommend you to call Audi Canada and let them know your situation and see if they would resolve it for you.
