Default TDI - Look for a radiator cover (protector, blanket, ...)

Hello members,

I am trying to maximise my fuel economy and warm-up faster my TDI (Northern areas).

Well, I want a radiator cover (or radiator protector or blanket... such as diesel trucks) for the winter, but to put inside the radiator grill - for not seeing it. I did some research on aftermarket Audi parts, but I found nothing for my car.

I have a OEM block heater. I connect it to three hours every morning and it's better. But I really want to improve my fuel economy.

The winter here is tough. Sometimes below -22 ° F (-30 ° C).

2012 Audi 2.0 TDI (8P)

Thanks,

4Circles

Hey FourCircle.

Not sure where you can find a radiator warmer, but I live 40 min north of Toronto and I used the OEM block heater in -15° C to -5° C temps and it made minimal difference in my fuel economy (Maybe 5% better or so). So I'm wondering how much better your fuel economy would really be with the radiator warmer, especially in -30° C.

Good luck with you search!

Block heater should have come standard look for the plug on the drivers side bumper cover and you should have had a cord to plug in tho the circular connector under the cover.

If you do not have one then look under the hood for a cable usualy coiled up next to the Battery box.

Ask the dealer to show you

Thanks Shaun
I do not have the TDI, I have the standard gas 4cyl
However still looking for the brand name of the aftermarket products for both rad/block heater and oil pan warmer
Neither available thru Audi Parts Kingston
In CTC saw batter blanket from Cold Start which might be of interest.
Cheers
Ed

If you can find out where the frost plugs are in the block it is a piece of cake to install. Ask NAPA if they have a universal one.

Also look at the in-line coolant heaters as I find they work well and are universal; I just plugged my car in after work and left it on all night (costs as much as a 100W bulb to run or something minor like that).

Very odd they do not come stock or at least as an option in Canada as part of the cold weather package.

I will be looking for a Battery Blanket and possibly Tranny heater but never realy needed them even on my older TDIs or Gasers.
