Angry Steering wheel electronic module failure

Hi all,

My A3 has a pretty serious issue today..... all the switches on the steering wheel including the shifting peddles are not functioning when the steering wheel is at the 12 o'clock position; and it works when the steering turns into a certain position. I took it to the dealer and they states that it is the failure of the electronic module in the steering wheel. My A3 has the 3rd party warranty, and it is still uncertain if the warranty will cover the cost. Have any one of you ever experience this failure before? What is the solution?

Thx!
