Default Sport Package?

Hi all, 1st post here, nice to have a Canook forum as Audi models change as they cross borders it seems. I'm on the verge of ordering an A3, kicking around the Sport Pkg. option but after having a superb-riding A4, I'm a little uneasy about 18" wheels. I'm wondering if the magnetic ride will compensate when set to soft. I'm also not fussy about summer tires and will try to negotiate a set of quieter and softer (I hope) set of all-seasons. Any takers?

The quattro 2.0T A3's come with standard sports suspension. To get an idea of the effect of having magnetic ride on the car think of the ride with sports suspension as a 5 with 10 being hardest. With Mag. ride off the ride will be a 4, with it on a 7. The wheels wont be making a huge difference to the ride as the 17" alloys are pretty low profile too (40 series vs 45 series).

Did you get a good deal?

I haven't ordered yet. The lease on the A4 doesn't expire until May, ordering early Jan will ensure April delivery I'm told. I've also been told that there will be incentives and lower lease rates in the spring. Does your car have the sport suspension?, Sport seats?,
18's? Thanks for your reply.

My car is an S-line with sports seats and sports suspension, but with 17"wheels.

I know how the 09 Sport package A3's ride because I work at a dealership and have been able to drive them back to back with and without.

So Zac, what's a "good deal"? How do you like the sport seats compared to not-so sporty?

I love the sport seats. Some people dont like the fact that you cant get the lumbar support on them and that they are not as easy to get in and out of (really only true if you're old!!)

A good deal is relative, but anywhere between 3-4% off is pretty good.

Where are you buying from?

Well I guess you're only as old as you feel and I'm a lot older than I feel, thank God for that. I'll probably be dealing in Calgary, that's where I leased from, there's a new dealer in town, same owner as the other one so no difference I'm assuming. I definitely have to drive an A3 with the sport seats, none with magnetic ride in Calgary yet as far as I know. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.

I ordered an A3 yesterday for my wife in Calgary after we did a few test drives at the dealer. We drove a TT with magnetic ride as no A3's with this option had arrived yet. I
found the difference huge between the 2 settings, much more comfort off. Then we drove an A3 with the titanium package, the summer tires being scary on ice and snow, instant ESP activation upon acceleration, had to really be aware of stopping distances when out on the icy streets. And lastly, an A3 with 17's to compare the ride with the 18's. In the end it was the 2.0T quattro premium with sport pkg. and symphony radio,
black on black. The summer tires won't leave the lot, the 18's might be swapped out for 17's too, depending on what the dealer will do when the car comes. What think ye?
BTW, thanks for the help, Zac and others.

Congrats, you are going to love the car.

I chose an A3 with Sport Package in stock here. Long story short I got the car in record time (after nearly 2 years of enjoyable research) once I decided.

I do not regret a single bit of the options I paid extra for. The car is a joy in many facets, especially the driving parts.

I swapped out the summer tires for all season 18"'s and they are performing and looking great. Not a single problem driving around in ice and snow and dealing with hills and icy laneways etc. so I feel like it's a very workable solution as opposed to snow tires.

I really think the 18's look better but that's probably because everything else is upgraded with that sport package, why not complete the look.

I really have yet to try the magnetic ride. We have a lot of potholes around here, to say nothing of all the ice , ruts, etc. right now.

One small surprise was that the car gets confused by cold weather. I thought it wouldn't start because it was cold, but it wasn't actually very cold. Turns out it must have been the engine immobilizer acting up. I hit the fob to lock and unlock the car again and it got unconfused and the key worked to start the engine.

What size 18" tires did you get? It seems to be rather hard to get all-seasons in the 18"
size.
