rim offset help
I've run into a bit of a situation here....
My 06' A3 needs some rims ( wifey curbed the hell out of 2 of them ), so I managed to find a set of OEM Audi rims for sale but I do not know what kind they are? Maybe someone can help me ? The guy wants $800 for them, brand new, still in the box and he lives down the street from me... How can i tell if they are indeed genuine OEM rims? I know the part # should be stamped all over it, but is there anything else that would validate them as OEM?
He has an 01' A4 that these were supposed to be for, but he states that he wants to go in a different direction. Checking information on his particular Audi, I have found that everything matches, minus the rim offset ( 32-40 MM for his car and 42-55 MM for the A3 ).
The only information he provided me was this - "5 x112 7Jx17 RO45." I'm assuming that the RO45 is an offset of 45? Did he buy the wrong rims for his car? If so, why wouldn't he just tell me that?
Any advice, info, etc would be greatly appreciated! Please see attached pic.

Re: rim offset help
They are probably not OEM wheels. They are more likely replicas of OEM wheels that are often advertised as OEM wheels. You can buy replicas advertised as OEM on on eBay for as little as USD $400 a set.
The first thing that caught my attention was the 7" width. I just had a look at all of the available 17" Audi OEM wheels for the the A3 for 2005 to 2010 and they are all 7.5" wide. As an FYI they are also showing an offset of 56 (7.5Jx17H2 ET56) while the 18" wheels show and offset of 54 (7.5Jx18H2 ET54). Also, that centre cap doesn't look OEM. As for the wheel style, I personally don't recognize it, but maybe someone else here does.
If the seller does live down the street from you, go have a look at the inside of the wheel and at the box. Audi OEM wheels will be stamped on the inside like in the picture (OEM TT S Line wheel) below. They will include the part number and wheel size and offset among other things. If it was an Audi OEM wheel the box will have the obvious printed on it as well (VW/Audi logos) but it will also have the part information; wheel specs and part numbers. Take pics and show us if you are still unsure.

Re: rim offset help
Very informative! At least I have a better understanding of exactly what it is that I am looking for.
Ok, but he actually bought these rims ( pictured ) for a 2001 Audi A4. He states that they are OEM, but he just wants to go a different route... I drive the 2006 Audi A3 and I want to know if the offset will work, even if it is only a 2 MM diff.
The prob here is that these rims are @ his brother's house, but he will have them here on Friday, so I have just seen pics for now.
Thanks for your help! I'm hoping a few other people with some particular "Audi experience" ( as well )will chime in between now and tomorrow!

Re: rim offset help
Part# on the box is what he provided me: 8D0 071 493 666
Can you provide me with a link that shows all the OEM Audi wheels that are available so that I can check?
I googled this wheel. Something called a Capezio showed up. Passat or Audi? This is what I copied:

Re: rim offset help
You're right about those being Passat wheels. What link did you get that part number from? If they are OEM wheels they won't have an option for an Audi centre cap.
Using a wheel offset calculator it looks like these wheels would extend 5mm from your wheel well and clear the strut housing by an additional 17 mm. You may notice a ride difference on narrower wheels as well.
1010 Tires Wheel Offset Calculator
Wheel Offset Calculator
Either way, I guess seeing will be believing.
(P.S. I don't have a link that shows any of the wheels, it's program I have.)

Re: rim offset help
The link is actually an Audi link. I just visited another site that said something about Passat Capezio, but then I went to this other site as posted above and they mentioned an Audi ACapezio. is there such a thing?

Re: rim offset help
Hmmm, I didn't see any link that you posted above. After further digging though it does look like they were offered from Audi dealers as an Audi wheel. It also looks like a really old design that may not be made anymore. Of they were purchased recently, the buyer likely got a really good deal. I guess you'll have to see the wheel and decide if it's worth $800 to you. Could be a good opportunity to get a hot set of wheels for summer as well!

Re: rim offset help
On Another tack, I had a set of 1998 A4 16" wheels and sold them to a fellow with an A3 and they fit just fine. A few mm of offset difference doesn't mean much.
Good Luck
