I've had my 2009 A3 Quattro since October and I have never experienced any "rattling" noises....I have a little "hiss" from the turbo when I step on the gas but it wouldn't be good if I didn't

HI everyone

I just buy mine in feb and i have the same sound I went 2 times to the dealer and the answer is it's normal because all 2009 A3 make the same noise ( this is totally innaceptabe) I just sent a email thru website and complain again ( it's the second time) and attach your treads to show that is it not normal when lost a persons complains for the same thing . I hope they will but an engener on this ASAP

I just picked up an '09 A3 2.0T and mine has a little bit of a hiss. Not sure how to describe it but it could be the turbo. It's temporary and it happens when I step on the gas quickly from a standstill. I don't know if I should be concerned. It could be the turbo kicking in. Otherwise the car runs well and I have no complaints.

I hear a slow rustling leaf sound every now and then (almost sounds like exhaust vibration and I have a A3 09 Q. It doesnt nearly hiss like my old 06 A3. I honestly dont think its that bad but I do notice it when the music is not on but thats rare. I will however gladdy put in a complaint for recall. For a 45 g car you shouldnt hear a rattle and the audi should be able to give a reason why.

Holy crap - this problem is so bothersome to people - a guy walked up to me on Bloor Street (my car was parked and I was coming back) to discuss the A3, he had the noise issue when accelerating as you all say, exact same description.

I do *not* get the noise, just a pleasant overall engine acceleration sound.

Is there anyone who doesn't get this? No idea if this is variability in models or if I just drove it harder after the break-in period or something.

I have a 2009 A3 2.0T Quattro and yes have noticed that grinding/rattling noise that starts at roughly 2000-2500 RPM in 5th-6th gear. It is quite faint and mostly buried in the other engine and road noises but if you listen very closely it is there. I wouldn't call it a major nuisance, having music on pretty much covers it up. Other than that I really like this car, great to drive. I'm going to check with the salesman and see what he has to say and report back. Has anyone else heard anything from Audi?

I am taking my 2 week old A3 in for a crack in the back of my driver's seat.. Will be asking them regarding the engine noise..

I dont detect that on my ' 08 2.0T but it's the manual front wheel drive ......I once had a similar experience with a bimmer and it was the variable valve system adjusting thru RPM ranges.......gave off almost a clattering sound hhhhhmmmmm !

In that case it was just the way the engine sounded thus .....nada

I've had my 2009 A3 for about 3 months now and have never experienced this. I've owned a number of different turbocharged cars and will often drive with the stereo off and windows down, specifically to listen to the engine.
