Does Audi allow importing their cars from the USA?

Re: Does Audi allow importing their cars from the USA?
Hi All. I just imported an A6 from Virginia and did not have to pay state tax. I received a 3 day trip permit from the DMV there for the trip which cost me only $5 in total.
Once at the border I paid 6% duty and 7% GST (on the red book value, NOT the bill of sale price). MTO charged the additional 8% PST on the same value as customs (red book, not BOS).

here's a good guide for price to pay for a car in the US converted to price in your driveway
i.e. 30,000 car
$1000 transportation to get it back here
currency = par
6.1% duty
13% HST on car + duty (I think it's on the duty too...)
$350 in fees (RIV/inspection/emissions/plate transfer/temp)
Total = $37317
Thus 30,000 ---> your driveway = factor of 1.244 (call it 1.25) .
So if you want to import an Audi, after all taxes/fees etc. it's going to cost you about a 25% premium on whatever your 'purchase price' is
This is for an import remember (since we're talking Audis)...but anything assembled over here is free of that 6.1% fee. Only other thing might be the $1000 gas guzzler tax. B6/7 S4 has to pay this for MT6 transmission, but the auto just sneaks by. Q7 gets his...RS4 doesn't. Etc. It's outlined on CRA's webpage.

you can buy a nearly new car...i.e. one with only a few miles on it but it has to have been titled down there. Most, if not all, dealers won't bend this rule (selling a canadian a new car), but there are often 'new, old stock' cars that get their title stamped as being the dealer's car because the model year is gone. This happened with lots of RS4s and B7 S4s back in the economic meltdown when dealers were forced to title cars that were brand new but not selling. Took them till well into 2009 to get rid of them all. People were buying NEW RS4s for $59,000 back then....while they sold for $74,000 only months earlier...and for $95,000 up here.

you can't buy new (unless the US dealer wants to lose his license)

Re: Does Audi allow importing their cars from the USA?
I guess I've been looking at buying a new car from the US. What I find utterly frustrating is the glaring price difference here. I went to the dealer here in Calgary yesterday and he quoted me a base price of $68,600 on the new A7, adding that he is not willing to budge at all because 'we've pre-sold 7 already'. (base for A7 premium plus is $74,300)
The one that I'd be looking at in Canada would be around $79,000. On the US website, you can build the same car for $66,000 US or around $63,000 Canadian, or a $16,000 difference. With the surging Canadian dollar is looks like this is going to become even more of a difference.
I was hoping that Audi would perhaps set their pricing a little differently with the new models, but that is not to be had.
I just think this is wrong. Plain wrong. Frustrating, but I guess we're being held captive. In particular with these single dealerships in Canadian cities who realize that they can set prices.
