Something that you need to understand here is that Canada does not relate to Santa Barbara at all, haven't even heard of it, Why would anyone need to know that? lol

Right. Well if there is one thing worse than an American's knowledge of Canada, it's a Canadian's knowledge of the U.S. Oh well, C'est la vie.

I recommend checking Registrar of Imported Vehicles for information if you havent done so they need up to a 72 hour notice before you cross the border. There is an RIV office at the crossing depending where you cross and it speeds up the process quite a bit. Than you need an out of provice and out of country inspection when the DRL's are done, and then you can register. hope that helps and gives you a heads up.
This is a VERY abbreviated list!

-- In LA go to the La Brea Tar Pits. Tar pits with saber tooth tigers in downtown Bev. Hills?? Pretty weird. Go see that!
-- While driving up the 405 drop by the Getty. Really cool, cafeteria is decent. It's free and I think parking is something like $15. Awesome way to spend a few hours. When I was there last I got to see a bunch of Da vinci's stuff. pretty cool!
Exhibitions at the Getty

-- Lots of beaches on the way up the drive. Santa Monica peer etc.
-- Santa Barbara is beautiful - feels like a fake town it's so pretty. While you stop by here take a walk at the waterfront, onto the peer, go to Julia Child's favourite mexican restaurant, super rica (if it's full go to los Agaves down the block, it's great too). Take a walk on state street and have a beer. Go to Hungry cat for awesome cocktails (really good burger) or Elements for a great burger and truffle oil fries (awesome!). I wish I could live here forever. Oh, happy hours at those places go until 6. Go wine tasting for the day - got to silverstone in the valley:
Silverstone Winery Official Website
You can do a great drive from SB up over the mountains where there are some great saddlepoints of the valley and the ocean. breathtaking.

-- you will be in Tri-tip country: Particularly when you drive up north. If you see somewhere with an outside BBQ, skip the ribs and get the TRI-TIP! Seriously, it's a cut of beef not well known outside SoCal, and it is great.

-- drive up the coast - you are going to do the big sur drive. You have to, it's the road in all the car commercials. Check it:

There are some great stops on the way that will be in any guide book.

You have to stop by monterey and go to the aquarium. While you are there you have to go to a restaurant called Passion Fish. Passionfish Seriously, best sea food around. Wine at cost. Seriously, this would be horrible to miss.

San Jose I thought was a bit of a hole. I don't have much to offer there but there might be good stuff.

San Francisco is fantastic. Great Italian food, great place for walking. I really like a bar called Vesuvios. I'm not sure why, it's nothing really special, just has a nice blend of good beer and weirdness. :: VESUVIO :: . It's also in the Italian section, go have a few drinks, go eat some great Italian food then go back for more drinks.

That's all I can offer, we haven't really gone farther up north.

Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it.

How is this even relevant? Obviously you are lacking knowledge in this thread. Go to Page 1 and start reading than write an educated response.

Carl,
thanks a lot for the write up I was going to drive up the coast between LA and San Jose for sure. I will most definitely hit up a few of those places. I got to check out that museum a little more and the food that’s a big one. Thanks again.

Could someone with a 2009+ A3 please post a picture of their light switch and DRL on?
Ideal would be someone who imported an A3 from the US. Are your fog lights your DRL??

I just received this email from a dealer in Canada:

"Good morning,
Typically on a 2009 model year vehicle we do not need to replace any parts. The technician has to go through the on board computer system and program / activate the daytime running lights. The cost to perform this procedure is $129.00 + HST.
"

So apparently a new part is NOT needed. Ug, this is confusing.

Resurrecting an old thread here. I'm in the same situation. I have a 2010 Audi A3 imported from the US that needs the DRL active at all times.

It sounds like I need to change both the programming and the headlight switch. No problem. I can do that... Does anyone have the part number for the correct switch? The headlight switch currently installed in my car is the same as the one shown in Post #24.

My car features fog lights, BiXenon headlights, LED DRL. No homecoming feature or automatic lights.

Thanks,

Tom
