Unhappy Cost to repaird 3inch gash and small dent on hood

I have a small dent from a pebble and it seems that this dent has cracked the paint just under it. It's about 3.5 inches wide, and it's pretty much gone down to bare metal. It hasn't start to come off, but seeing as it's winter I don't want to put it off any longer.

Does anyone have an idea as to how much it would cost to fix this? What kind of estimation am I looking at to have this repaired and repainted. My car color is brilliant black.

Your location is "Canada". Difficult to recommend a shop for an estimate without knowing your location. Also a picture or two would help those that know about body repair. Try to give more info in the future otherwise your going to get a broad spectrum of answers.

Cracked paint is not very common if ever.. Usually when paints cracks, it was due a poorly done repaint job and its not so much the paint cracking but the paint peeling away.. When I have seen paint crack, it is when someone did a rookie job of bondoing and its not the paint, but the bondo cracking taking the paint with it.

In my area, you can get an entire hood painted for around $250 bucks. But thats straight colour match to your paint and not blended in to match the fenders as fading usually occurs. I mentioned the whole hood because it is actually easier to just paint the enitre hood (possibly cheaper for you) as fixing the one spot and trying to blend in the black to the rest of the hood. If your car was silver or white, it wouldn't be as much of a concern as they blend easily.

This could be considered a blessing in disguise. Might be a good time to consider a Carbon Fibre hood! If the cost to repair/repaint/refinish is comparable to a CF hood, I personally would just go ahead and opt for the CF. Just my $0.02!

Plus who cares if the hood/body colours don't match, the raw CF is just so sexy anyways!

CARBON FIBRE HOOD

More photos of the VIS CF hood HERE

How do you install a carbon fiber hood?

Carbon fiber hoods are usually OEM fit and finish which means un-bolting your factory hood and replacing it with the new lightweight carbon hood. Little to no modification is needed to get these to fit properly, and they often come with OEM metal latches for an easy installation. Nevertheless, hood pins are recommended for use with all carbon fiber hoods.

HERE's another site that the OP might be interested in.
