Unhappy power loss, stalling

Hi, I just bought my first Audi A3 5 weeks ago. I love it, but, 1 week ago it stalled twice in traffic within 3 blocks of each other. Two nights ago it lost power in drive as I was pulling out of a parking spot. The selector gear lights started flashing. It has been into the service department twice, but, needless to say if won't cooperate with them and they cannot find anything wrong with it.
Help, help, help.

I've had similar problems with 2009 Audi A3 2.0T quattro. Several visits to dealer (6 in first 12 months!). Camshaft sensor triggered usually. They "replaced" camshaft and EPC but problem persists. Seems like a timing, transmission issue. Still no clear answers and problem persists.

Sounds like you have the dreaded Mechatronic failure (knock on wood, my 07 dsg hasnt had a single issue- not a single CEL, it has been flawless for 47k miles)

Hi, thanks for your reply. I picked up my car yesterday. Audi replaced transmission sensor actually the speed/temperature sensor. I will let you know in a couple of weeks if this fixes it.

Thanks for the info. What could be reason for improper performance of speed/temperature sensor?

Sorry I am just getting back to your message. I have been away for the last few weeks. I don't know why the mechanic changed the sensor, only that the Audi tech line directed him there after the computer diagnosis indicated a fault with that sensor. I have not had anymore problems with the stalling. (touch wood).

OK I thought I would provide some update on this.

We had a bad winter and really bad roads which made the car bumpy. As a result I had an air leak. It looks as if this has caused the EPC light to come on some times

Basically if you drive around what will happen occasionally is that the rev counter will go down to 0 for a brief instance and you will notice loss of power.

On occasions you may experience complete cut off including brakes and power steering. If you restart the car after a few seconds - it will start normally.

Also sometimes it may feel like the battery is dead when you start the car for no known reason.

Some other information that I can provide. If you rev the car over 3-3.5 rpm the power loss t will occur more frequently. If you drive around below 2 - 2.5 rpm the incidence of this should not be so frequent. (change gears quickly)

If you go down a gear going up hill and increase the revs in all likely hood you will notice loss in power. It may feel like the car has missed a heart beat.

Ive also notice keeping the air con off reduces the incidence of the power loss.

I took it into the garage - now a days they seem to plug it in and do what the computer says, but I dont think the computer can detect an air leak.

I had the Lamda sensor changed, oil and filters changed but no difference.

If you open the engine up you may be able to hear the air leak.

I will report back once I get the air leak fixed and drive around for a while, but my conclusion is that the loss of the power seemed in this case to be caused by an air leak.
