Oil chnage guidelines plse

I have recently taken delivery of an A3, first registered march 2007. It had been given it's first service at 15,000 miles in may 2008.. No oil/filter was changed at this sevice, according to the book.
The next service display says a service will be due at 18,000 miles-which I will achieve early 2009.
Surely an oil change interval at 18000 miles is too long . Shall I insist the Audi dealer (from whom I bought the vehicle) change the oil as part of the obligitory pre-delivery inspection?

In Canada Audi recommends the first oil change at 8000 km (5000 miles), the next one at 25000 km (15000 miles) and then every 15000 km (10000 miles) after that. It's quite different in Europe.

As to your other question, it wouldn't hurt to get an oil change right away if the dealer will do it.
