Re: noise from the brakes?

I just recently had the same thing.. My brakes squeal louder than truck's when i slowly stop at intersections.. (not a good thing with tons of ppl waiting to cross the road, kinda embarassing actually)

I am taking my car in for 2 recalls next week and I will voice my opinion to them.. My 3 year old yaris at half the cost doesn't make sounds when braking.. why should the A3?

Re: noise from the brakes?

The brake pads on Audi's and German cars in particular are very hard. They provide better braking and tend to last longer as well. The downside is they do tend to be a bit noisy. You can have them replaced with softer, quieter pads but for me the more noise the better. At least the cellphone addicts can hear them.:D

Yep, a real high-pitched squeal. Really scares the horses.

any solutions?

Re: noise from the brakes?

You can replace them with softer brake pads. Your Audi dealer can clean the existing pads which will reduce the noise temporarily. I've just learned to live with it. However, I live in a very dry climate so the noise may not be as bad as a humid environment.

Re: noise from the brakes?

Hi all, I have the same problem on my A3 2.0T Quattro.
12K miles, just horrible squeaking for the last 3K miles or so.
Audi says the same thing to me, no solution except temporary cleaning... and I have no time to hassle their shop every other day in the hope to get these pads replaced with the same kind.
So I will replace them this week, I have had it!

I have a question for all of you:
If I were to go to a NTB or Pep Boys kind of place to get the pads replaced, do you think I need 4 new ones? Just the front? I noticed the squeaquing is worse when my wheels are turned.
Also, Do i need to replace the rotors? I would not think it is necessary at 12K.

Thanks in advance.
Pierre

Re: noise from the brakes?

I have the same situation, well sort of. I have an '09 A3 with about 15K on it. I noticed the squeaking sound from the brakes at first but that didn't bother me so much, it's more the grinding sound they make in the morning when I first start driving. The grinding goes away once the discs heat up and then its just fine. Do I need to voice my concern to my dealer?
