A3 wheels/rims min/max offset/width?

I have an 09 A3, 2.0 S-Line. No TPMS. Just bought 225/45 R17 winter tires, and need to get rims for them. Seems like there are a lot of options/variables out there size-wise.

Here is what I've been able to figure out cruising google and audi forums re my current stock 17" wheels (let me know if any of you know otherwise, as this info was not easy to find and gathered from all over):
-offset: 56
-backspacing: 6.45
-bolt pattern: 5-112
-measuring/design rim width: 7.5"

A few questions:
-I read somewhere that, for my car/tires, a measuring/design rim width in the range of 7" - 8.5" would work? Is this the correct range? Is the range dependent on anything else (ie the rim width)?
-What is the range of offset that would work? I found a good set of rims whose offset is 30. Will these rims work w/my winter tires/car?

Anything else i need to consider in buying rims?

Thanks for any help advice

19X8.5 ET45 is the max you can go

Thx for replying sun1

I am looking at some 17" rims. +35mm offset, 8 inch rim width. Should work w/225/45 R17s on an 09 A3, right?

Thx for the help

I would not expect an offset of 35 to work. I know guys were running offsets of 42-45, with good results, but some reported rubbing with offsets of 42. I had a set of wheels with an offset of 42 that Ronal promised would work, but I never did get them on my A3.

225x45x17 wintertires scrubbed inside rear fenders with offset 35. dealer swapped tires onto 45 offset rims today. loos ok to me now, but didn't have weight at the rear end yet.

35 offset with 17" rim won't rub if you haven't lowered your car but its not gonna look good. 1cm off the fender?

SUN 1, didn't lower the A3, and 17" rims with 35 offset rubbed (225X45X 17 winter tires), thats why the dealer changed it to 45 offset rims......

oh...why did you put on a ET 35 at the first place?your dealer should know better.... people usually use ET 42-50

the winter tire package was included in the purchase deal. No charge for the change to the 45 offset rims.
