Re: A3 FSI oil consumption
Yeah same deal with me. It burned up almost 2 litres of synthetic in 3,000kms and I have my car in for service so I mentioned it to them and they said they consider 1 litre per 1,000 kms to be normal and anything over that is excessive!!! Come on. Total bullshit. I need ammo to get them to actually do something while I still have a warranty.

Re: A3 FSI oil consumption
Hello guys,
please I need Help before contacting the Dealer!! My A3 2007 engine seems weird, I explain: When I first start it in the morning, the engine goes up and down between 800 and 1200 rpm for 4 minutes and then everything is allright, but I noticed that there are black drops (many black drops) on the ground below the exhaust pipe. This happened twice last week and yesterday, the Oil light came On. I had to add synthetic Oil and the light went OFF. this morning the same problem, the engine had a serieus problem to maintain the rpm at 800 and then the ESP and the ECP came out of service. I have some pictures and videos of it, but I don't know how upload them here. question: do you think that the Oil comsumption problem has anythink to do with the engine problem? thank you for your help. note: the car has 13,800Km and the last oil change was at 8,000Km like recommended by the dealer. |
Re: A3 FSI oil consumption
I get the black drips but we figured it was condensation mixing with the black exhaust residue (which is partly burning oil I'm sure since this car definitely does). Haven't seen the other stuff you describe. But I am still putting about a quart of synthetic in about every 2,000 miles. Ugh.

Re: A3 FSI oil consumption
I just took possession of a 2007 A3 s-line with a little over 50K on it. I brought it home today, oil was low by a litre, but a litre of Castrol Syntec 5w40 for now, its about 1000K away from service. The exhaust tip is really carboned up, I guessing it has never been cleaned before. I will take care of that soon!
Im also concerned with oil consumption on this car, I got the car for my wife and want to know if there is anything else I can do. The vehicle is still under warranty, and Im wondering if they would still cover it if I switched to Mobil 1 10w30 or even 15w50 for the summer to reduce the consumption issues. Any advise would be appreciated! Cheers, Rohit |
Re: A3 FSI oil consumption
hey oil is the least of your issues:
http://www.awe-tuning.com/media/pdf/...FP_Upgrade.pdf make sure you check that website out and look at the camfollower issue, this alone can cost you over $3k in expenses for Repair if it fails. |
