Default 2008 A3 S-Line hesitation

I have an A3, gasoline powered, which has been exhibiting some hesitation on accelerating that is noticable in first, second and third gears. Rev range seems to be between 2100 and 2800 rpm, more so when the engine is cold and outside temperatures are cool - 7 Celsius and below. Once the engine warms up the hesitate reduces, but is still there. Gas consumption is not as good as before the hesitation was noticed.

Took it to the dealer and had the shop manager test drive it - he noticed it. Left the car overnight and in the morning they claimed they could no longer detect any hesitation. No codes being thrown so they can't fix it.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Two options for you. The first one is I know there is a TSB put out with Audi Canada for dealers to perform a clutch pack adaptation. It's very simple and takes roughly an hour to do. If this doesn't work, I would have your dealer check the mechatronic unit for the transmission. Those older A3's are famous for having issues with that mechatronic unit!

Thanks for the reply. I'll see if the dealer will look into the transmission, or I'll try an independent garage.

This really does not have the feel of a transmission problem, though. This feels very much like an engine issue.

My buddy works at an audi dealer and his said your concerns are the exact same as a few of his other customers and that's what they did for a repair. Just passing along the info!

UPDATE:

Engine finally threw a code. One injector was replaced (under warranty) along with the intake manifold gasket.

Problem solved - performance and gas mileage are back to normal.
