2006 A3 2.0T Used: what to expect?

Greetings,

first post and looking for advice beyond prospective sellers and consumer reports.

Wife and I are replacing our old hatchback, we do long drives (USA, etc.) and need the room for sports gear, bicycle racks, etc. A3 fits the bill, and we're frightened off by the maintenance issues.

We don't have a problem with paying for what its worth, but when looking at 06 A3s, there are a good selection under 100,000km, even under 75K. But what about a 120K highway driven A3? Am I asking for trouble? We'll keep it for 5 years, drive it up to 200K.

What is the value of an affordable A3 with 120K vs. a bit more coin for one with less than 75K?

Cheers,
M.

I would have to say between 15-17k would be reasonable
Great car my A3 06 knock on wood no major problems but do have to take it in as there is noise when I turn to the left think I know what it is. But no major issues with the car !

Just bought an '06 A3 with <43k km. Love this car! Paid $18,5k for the low km's. If the car was highway driven, should be ok for maintenance. I buy under 50k km and sell at 250k km. You get what you pay for!

I just recently bought my '06 A3 with just under 100k. Came fully loaded, and ended up paying 17800. No accidents, and the original location of previous owner lived outside the city, so majority of driving was highway.

I'm likely going to clean the MAF, install new coil pack and new Carbonio Cold Air Intake system. Pretty basic stuff, that hopefully keeps my engine in top notch condition. Also, going to clean fuel tank, change oil, and some tran-fluid just to keep me happy and my car humming along.

From what I've read online, A3 is a really good car, great safety measures, powerful and smart engine, and smoking nice sportback body. I also like it because not many people drive it on the road, which I always like to see.... or not see in this case!
