Can I get everyone's thoughts on Hankook winter tires for a '11 S4? Is the size 225/40/R18 appropriate? This is what Audi is recommending me.

What is your current OEM wheel size again? I know you have 19's on the S4 and it seems that Audi is telling you to put on a narrower tire. I'm pretty sure you can go with 17's as well but you'd have to make sure that the rim (alloys) can fit over the big brakes you have on the car. Here is wheel calculator you can use against your OEM wheels:

It's on the BMW forum...oh well...at least BMW is good for something!!!

The stock tires are 255/35/R19. They're suggesting for winter 225/40/R18. Reason it's 18" is because I already have audi 18" rims from my other car. They are Hankook W300 ICE BEAR.
Not too sure about the price they're working it into my overall car deal it's costing me only 600 bux they're paying for the rest.

The correct tire wheel and tire size is 225/45R18 or 245/40R18 on 18x8 ET35 to 47. 47 offset being the OEM spec while 35 offset will sit more flush with the fender like your 19" summer wheel/tires. For 17", you can run 225/50R17 or 245/45R17 tires on 17x7.5 ET32 to 43 or 18x8 ET 35 to 47. The lower offset will make the wheel more flush with the fender (if you care about looks).

Between the 225 or 245 the narrrower tire will cut thru deep snow much better but the wider tire will corner better on dry winter days.

Also you need to note the hub size. If your existing OEM 18" wheel came from an older Audi - it will likely not fit. For the B8 A4, the hub size increased from 57.1mm to 66.56mm. The hub on your new B8 S4 will be bigger than the hub cavity on the back of the older audi wheels.

However, if your existing 18" wheels are aftermarket or replica, then it should come with a hub size of 72mm and then with a hubring to size it down to 57.1mm. If this is the case, then you just need to buy hubrings to size down from 72mm to 66.56mm.

The Hankook Icebear are great performance snowtires - i was trying to get them but they sold out this season so I'm running on 225/45R18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 on 18x8 ET38 Audi A8 Replicas.
