A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
I have scanned the forum but hoping for people to chime in what they are using. I have a 2010 A4 Premium with Tech Package - All seasons are on 18" alloys.
Need to buy winters soon so:
What size rim can I get? 16" or 17" or do I have to stay with 18"
What kind of rim? Steel or Alloy
Best winter tire going for slush, ice, snow?
Dealer here is selling Pirelli Sottozero's with alloy rim packages which I know nothing about.
Prices they have are 16" 2,100 - 17" 2,480 - 18" 3,540
Saw some posts regarding caliper clearence which concerns me so not sure if I can trust anyone in the area other than the audi dealer but those prices are killing me.
Help is very much appreciated.

Price out the alloys alone from the dealer, and buy your rubber somewhere else. When I need to replace the tires, I'm going for something with less emphasis on dry handling and more snow/slush/ice bite. Will probably reduce the cost as well, since the Michelins (and Pirelli's) are premium priced. Get the tires mounted and balanced at the dealer, as Costco used bigger wheel weights that rub against the calipers.
Good luck.

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
THanks brr.
I was just having a dilemma about high performance winters (Alpin PA3) or ice/snow Michelin Xi2. I have used x-ice on other cars/suv in the past and have been very happy so am thinking the Xi2's for tires.
Rims I am not sure on. Should I get the Audi rims or an aftermarket brand. Audi seems so expensive but have not really compared yet. I will be heading to Miller TireCraft soon to price tires and rims and will also check out costco for tires.
I do feel more confident in buying rims from the Audi dealer but that may just be my lack of knowledge around buying the correct size rims for the car. Will be 17's but that's about all I know.

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
Hi I bought a 2007 A4 3.6 quattro S-Line used and had to deal with a similar issue. Front caliper is huge on Audi, assuming this is no change for 2010. Only one way to find out if non-OEM alloy fits and that is to try them on. No steel wheel will fit. I got mine used on Kijiji but tested them first.
Second issue is that normally you should be able to go down 1 inch on R and add that to the radius. So I have gone from 235 55 17 to 215 65 16 in other words you can go down an inch and probably should for better traction and control in snow with better height. I got that from various sources and verified with Audi, you can do the same. Good luck
Bottom line you should be able to save significant bucks whatever you do.

This link is handy for determining tire sizes.
Tire size calculator
Anything less than 0.5% difference to your stock size should be ok.

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
Almost ready to order from Car Kraze or Simply Tire.
Getting overwhelmed by everything on the internet regarding bore and offset.
Looking for some assurance that the RS4 or S5 17" replica wheels will properly fit a 2010 A4 that came with OEM 18" 5 spoke rims.
Specifically I see some site offering 17 x 7.5 and others with 17 x 8. Does this matter?
Also concerned that a lot of the sites have these replica rims listed for B7 and earlier A4 which I have read will not fit the B8.
As my wife says I over research things like crazy.

Be very careful of the centre bore. Audi changed the A4 B8 (2009 & on) from 57.1mm to 66.6mm. Obviously any Audi wheel from a pre 2009 A4 will NOT fit. You can get wheels with a larger centre and the put in hubcentric rings to reduce the size to 66.6.
For my part, I searched all the Audi Forums and bought a gently used set of 2009 18x7 Rims. I got them thru: Audizine.com
Either 17 x 7.5 or 8 will do the job.
Hope this helps a little.
