3M Rockguard - Calgary
Any suggestions on where I can go to get the 3M rockguard for my new Q5 in Calgary or the surrounding area?
(I haven't priced out the dealership, but I'm thinking I can get a better deal by going elsewhere).
...."shadowtint" in the NE any good?

Shadow Tinting does great work. You can see most of the available options for your car on their website too.

Had mine done With Calgary Shield, they came to my house and installed it in my garage, it looks fantastic, good price too. they even threw in the headlights and the fog lights for free. Tier site also has a listing to find you car.
It was easy and fast.

Stacy @ Freestyle Design is who Glenmore Audi, and many other dealerships uses. Save about 30% or so booking directly through him but he can be a bit tough to get hold of.

Re: 3M Rockguard - Calgary
Hi folks:
I am looking for some guidance as to how much 3M protection to get put on our new Q5 which arrives this week from the US. (Early Merry Christmas to us).
I realize the full package offers the most protection but what areas are the most susceptible to rock and chip damage? The hood, fender corners and headlights/foglights are a no brainer but is the rocker panel, roof and A pillar really necessary?
Also any input on alternative products out there.
Any info or pointers appreciated.
Dave

Re: 3M Rockguard - Calgary
Early Christmas indeed!! It is an outstanding vehicle.
I did get quite a bit of 3M protection on my Q5 and given the amount of gravel on the Calgary roads, I don't regret it one bit. I have waxed over it as well (using a liquid Carnauba wax - Meguiars) and it works like a charm. (I have a white Q5 as well
I got the following 3M'ed:
-Hood (18"), headlights, foglights
-Side mirrors
-Door cups, door edges
-Rocker panels, fenders
-Roof (8")
-Cargo ledge **Have already saved myself 5+ paints dings/ scratches with this piece.
Didn't go with the A-pillars as they rarely get a chip. Not necessary to get the full hood IMO since the Q5 sits high and slope of the hood is next to nothing.
I had mine done at Tinting Illusions in Calgary - they do amazing work and priced right (for the quality, you won't find a better shop). They'll give you an estimate over the phone.
(I also had my side windows tinted to match the rear tint by them and saved some $$ by having it done at the same time as the 3M).
Hope this helps - let me know if you want more info.

Re: 3M Rockguard - Calgary
We just had 3M work done on our Q5 on Friday at Tinting Illusions and I am very impressed with the work and the price.
We did
The full front bumper
24 inches up the hood
Fender corners
Rocker panels and door sills
A-pillar and roof in front of the sunroof
Cargo lip
Headlights and foglights
Mirrors
and 2 custom pieces, the black painted section of the grille and where the body flares out in front of the rear wheels.
All for way less than the dealership wanted to do the front bumper, hood, rocker panel and cargo lip.
All I can say is they are great guys to deal with and seem to do excellent work.
