Robert,
You'll probably get a pretty biased answer here - most a.a.a folks take care
of their cars. The person you have to worry about doesn't know that their
car needs things like oil changes, etc......like the person that was not
allowed on the track at the quattro Challenge at Mosport because they had
motor oil in their brake reservoir....
Like the guy I bought the 5ktq from...he knew jack about cars. He had the
t-belt done and then his wife collided with something that dented the t-belt
cover. When I had it inspected (always a good idea), the mechanic said that
there was only half a t-belt left, they hadn't replaced the belt after the
accident!!! Needless to say, I drove gingerly back to the guy's place and
had him get a new t-belt (+ water pump). I paid next to nothing for the car
(considering it was top-of-the-line at Canadian dealers in 1987)....and then
spent bags of money fixing the previous owner neglect.

Well I just changed mine for the first in the cars life and it lasted 290,000km over 13 years so i would say thats pretty incredible on the 2.8 SOHC A4 Q
