Im buying an Audi from a dealer in Quebec and bringing it back to be regsitered in Ontario. He is telling me that I will need to pay a 5% tax on top of the sale price and that I would then only pay 8% at the MTO when I regsiter it in Ontario.
Does this make sense? I was always under the impression that a purchase from Quebec does not have any taxes attached, and that once I get back to Ontario I would pay the full 13%? The dealership I am dealing with is legit and I trust what they are telling me, but I wanted to run this by you guys as it seems odd to me.
Am I missing something? Maybe I am to get reimbursed for the 5% I pay in Quebec?
Re: Purchasing Audi from Quebec dealer - Tax Rules?
I've confirmed through the MTO that if the seller (not private), seels you a vehicle out of Ontario and charges you 5%, you simply need to bring in the bill of sale into their office and at that point you will only be charged 8%.
