Default Importing from the US

Does anyone have experience importing a new Q5 from the US to Canada in the last year? I'm specifically wondering whether Canadian Audi dealers will honour the warranty on a new vehicle purchased in the US.

Also -- does anyone know if you can change the climate control display from Farenheit to Celcius and vice-versa?

Thanks.

Hi dwm2,

I purchased a used US imported 2009 Q5 in the Vancouver area. I checked with Audi Canada before I bought the vehicle and they said that the warranty is good for North America.

The climate control readout can be changed to Celsius.

As you expect, the speedometer has the mph numbers larger than the kmh. That doesn't bother me because I just have the digital readout in kmh.

However, I am unable to get the average fuel consumption (mpg) to L/100km.

From the MMI you should be able to change your consumption to L/100KM

We attempted to purchase a new 2010 Q5 from Barrier Audi in Bellevue WA (near Seattle). Despite their large inventory of Q5s they told us they were unable to sell a
new vehicle to Canadians.

Fortunately, we found a dealer in Canada (in another prov) who had a factory slot and were able to order our Q5.

I was told that US dealers will get penalty from Audi USA for selling new vehicle to Canadian. But I was also told that there are brokers in US who can do it.

I ended up buying a slightly used one as I do not want to wait. I used an import broker who brought the car to a local dealer in Vancouver to make all the necessary changes (Mileage to KM, F to C). The consumption is at Litre/100KM.

The only draw back I can see from buying US car is that you cannot get Audi care and extended warranty. The later is my only concern at this moment.

I just confirmed vag-com software allows you to to change the consumption to L/100KM. It's really easy.

Hi Warcity,

Would you be able to post the instructions to do the VAG-com change to L/100km?

Thanks,

Tommy
