Default 2L Turbo vs 3.2L V6

I went to the local Audi dealer yesterday and got to drive a few different cars (TTS, A4 Avant, Q5 Turbo, Q5 V6)

It was really cool to drive the Q5 back to back with both engine options. After first hearing that the Q5 was getting the 4 banger I thought that is a bad idea to put that motor in that size SUV but it really works!!

I first drove the Q5 with the new 2.0 TFSI engine. It has a 8 speed transmission that is really smooth at finding the right gear. I felt like it had good pickup and never thought that it needed more power. It was very nimble and it was not to loud.

I drove the Q5 3.2 FSI next and felt right away that the front end was heavier. You could feel the extra weight in the front end from the heavier motor so It was not as nimble as the 4 banger. The motor and transmission combo where very smooth and had good pickup. Both engine's felt like they could move the Q5 the same.

So in the end I would choose the 4 banger over the V6. You save money that way, it has better steering feel/handling and it gets better gas mileage!!

Thats my 2 cents

I'm surprised you noticed extra weight under the 3.2 seeing how both cards weight the same.

If those numbers are true then maybe something was changed in the steering.

The V6 definitely felt less nimble in the handling department. Maybe it was the Q5 I drove!
I'm going back to the dealer today to drive a full loaded V6 Q5 today so I will see if this one feels the same as the last one.

I find the Audi.ca site to be a bit schetchy as some of the descriptions of the options (MMI description refers to the A6). Also the special order options are not available online (adaptive headlights, rear airbags.....etc). I would suspect that a 6 cyl would have more of a weight difference that the 4 even with the turbo added.

UPDATE!
US website has 200 lb difference between the two engines.

You know what, I just figured it out. So the imagines i posted above are right where you're looking. I was automatically looking at KG. In pounds the site is posting them as 4090 and 4299 but for BOTH it's listing them at 1855 kg which CLEARLY is wrong.

I am not at all impressed that they're listing wrong info even if it is just wrong in KG.

Anyways, when you test drive the 2 make sure both have the same size rims, that makes a difference.

Great summary. I agree with you 100%. I also noticed a similarity between the new 8 speed tip and the stronic transmission.
I'm hearing these type of comments time and time again. We have both vehicles available for test drives, and I offer back to back TD all the time, the 2.0t is the winner everytime.

Alex, I am really glad to hear this from you. If the 2.0 liter wins over and over again. Will your head office get it? I mean, we talked here on the forum about it before and I voiced my opinion that the 2.0 (both regular and TDI) are the favorites in Germany and by my own impression Canadians would take 'smaller' engines. But why do they first introduce the 3.2 and then later the 2.0? I just do not get it. I love the Q5 and wanted one/needed a car so I took the 3.2 but always regret that the 2.0 was not available.
