Block heaters are not required here as I have started my A4 no problem in -40 degree weather. Some people get them installed anyways but its a piece of mind for them, I tend not even worry about it.

The cleaning of the streets can be improved on, but it is alright. NW isn't that bad and the hills aren't any sort of nightmare, I have passed snow plows with quattro no problem with winter tires on, as others held back.

You will enjoy the Avant a lot more as it is very versatile and out-handles the Q5, for the few warm weather days we do get here.

Thanks, 1move! The problem is that, I am really having a tough time choosing between the 2 vehicles!

I love the look of the Avant with S-line - it is the car that really gave me that "wow" factor in the looks department! However, when I drove it on the freeway, the road noise on the freeway and vibration from the freeway that came through the steering wheel put me off a little bit. I wonder if it's the 19" tires that were the problem as I did not notice much of that with the regular 17" wheels of the Premium Plus Avant. The 2.0T engine also was not as refined as the 3.2FSI.

On the other hand, the Q5 seemed so much quieter, which I did enjoy very much, but clearly it was less sporty in the handling department. It's also, IMHO, less handsome than the Avant.

I think I will enjoy the Avant for city driving more, but the Q5 more for freeway cruising. I just need to decide what is more important to me........ but I guess in the end, I probably would enjoy getting either car!

Well q5 is designed to be more of a family car.
The a4 s line is a sports model, so if you want something quitter, look for an a4 or a6, if you want some size.
Q5 and s4 are designed for completely different market segment.

S4 is made to be loud and sporty, thats why people want the sline, not because its quite and family car, dont get me wrong, its will do fine for the family, its just made to preform.

People already complain that new sline is a lot quieter then the older RS4 with a v8. Its just plain wrong to make a car that is classified as enthusiast car and take all the "RAWR" out of it.

The decision is yours in the end, both are excellent cars, but with the price tag on q5, check out porche cayenne if your looking for something in the suv class, i personally don't like audi for the SUV. It is 12 g more for a new model but its a much better luxury suv experience.

From personal stand point i would take the s4 in a heart beat simply because thats the type of car i prefer. But i know a lot of people who would get q5 instead.

He wasn't comparing a Q5 to an S4, he was comparing it to an A4 Avant S-line, I think you aren't very clear on what an S-line is.
It only gives you upgraded wheels, better suspension, and a sportier look, there are no enhancements to the engine itself. An S4 is a completely different class.

I would also say that the road noise must be high due to the 19" wheels, if you get a set of 17's for winter you will love it. Are you looking to purchase here or in the US? Not sure of what the rules are but it would be worth saving yourself some money and buying in the US and bringing it back here as I presume you are a US citizen, and you can buy new down there.

Thanks! If it's just the 19" high performance tires, then I will be happy! I need to do some more investigations there

Yes, I am from the US so I will just be entering Canada temporarily and therefore purchasing new in the US is not a problem for me. Thanks again!
