Default Audi a6 signal switch buzzing

Hi,

I have a 2003 Audi A6 quattro and the hazard/signal switch in the centre of the dash clicks and buzzes nearly every time after I use the turn signals. I was told by Audi to replace a defective signal switch with a new one that came with a different part number. I replaced the switch and the problem persisted. I replaced the switch once again and the problem still persisted.

what else could the problem be from? Any advise is appreciated.

Ron

It sounds like it could be a relay, almost as if the coil is not fully de-energizing when the switch is released

thank you for your reply. I am not familiar with the relay you are referring to.

I can partially engage the signal lights at the steering column and "activate" the buzzing noise in the hazard/signal switch at the centre of the dash. Then the switch buzzes for the next few seconds....and then intermittently for awhile after that. Very odd. Could it be a problem with the swicth on the steering column?

Audi mechanic at the shop claims that this is an issue with the hazard/signal switch in the dash but I have changed it 2X already and for a short period of time (a week or two), the problem goes away but then persists.

Any help is appreciated!

I will have a look in my Bentley manual and see if I can find the wiring diagram for the signals

Thank you for looking in your manual for the wiring diagram for the signal switch. Any help is appreciated!

Where would I get a "Bentley" manual for a audi a6 quattro?

Check any dealer or you can get it online from most aftermarket vendors

I have had this problem for over a year in my 2004 A6. I can best describe it as a clicking/buzzing sound emitting from the hazard switch. I had replaced the hazard switch on my own, but much to my surprise, the problem didn't go away. I eventually had the dealer check it out, and I was advised that the signal arm would need to be replaced. I don't remember the exact price, but it was a hell of a lot cheaper for me to just turn the radio up and ignore it.

The problem has recently gotten much worse. This weekend I'll likely check out how difficult replacing the arm will be, and order the part myself through the dealer or an OEM parts supplier online. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your reply "Ryan" about buzzing signal switches in audi a6's. Are you referring to the replacement of the signal arm on the steering column ? Sounds like it would be more money. I would really like to know whether it fixed your problem. The buzzing is getting worse and worse so I will likely need to go that route too if it fixes it.
