Question Noise while turning Right...

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this issue... just noticed recently that when I move the steering wheel to the right (anything over 30 degrees) at a decent speed I hear this rubbing/grinding noise. If I turn the wheel back to centre or left the noise goes away.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any ideas on what it might be due to?

P.S. I got a friend of mine to put the car up and he checked the wheels and didn't seem like anything wrong with it. Could it be wheel hubs? or brake dust collector? any other ideas?

Could also be wheel bearing.

To test CV joints, find a parking lot, turn the wheels hard right and do tight circles, listen for a clicking/clunking noise.

Tried the parking lot thing but no noise... I was told it could also be the brake dust collector... would this cause the issue as well? the sound is like for example when you use a belt sander to smooth out wood block...

Not sure what you mean when you say brake dust collector.. like that thin sheet metal splash guard thing? If you think that could be it then it should be fairly easy to check. Just remove the wheel and inspect the guard for looseness, any signs of rubbing, or any bends. Could be either of them so check both.

Do you experience any vibration when you hear the sound?

I actually have the same sound, it sounds like you rubbing something like rubber or some similar material. I was bored one day and during a snow storm i put my car in reverse and turned the wheel all the way to the left and started hammering it. after that the noise came to be. THats how my stuff happened and its same thing as above, its only to one side and usually noticeable only when still or driving at like 10 km/hr. do you have the same thing?

Same thing happened to me it was the Rack and Pinion steering. It sounded like the noise was coming from the belt.

mine occurs at 40km/hr and above and the wheel is usually around 45 degree angle. Check the thin metal sheet and its fine. Mechanic check pretty much everything (except full inspection of CV) and is not sure what else it could be.. why would it be the rack and pinion steering?

Oh and there is no vibration or anything on the steering wheel or car...
