Default TTS vs chipped TT2.0

Just got back from my Audi dealer who replaced my coil packs. While I was there I was chatting with the Salesman and the Service Manager about the new TT's.

Firstly, both the TTS and the TT2.0 are now quattro, and they have the same tranny, so no difference there.

Secondly the TTS is about $8000 higher in price and for that you get the extra hp and a bunch of suspension, brake and other performance bits. But, here is a kicker: the 2010 TTS still has the timing belt which needs to be changed at about 100k km, while the new TT2.0 Quattro has the more durable timing chain from the A4 A5 models.

Audi is now offering a dealer chip option from StaSis which bumps the hp of the TT to about 245 and over 250 lb-ft., for about $1200. Getting close to the TTS's numbers. It has the full warranty and any dealer can work on it, and you'll save about $7000 - significant.

So the choice between a TTS and TT just got a little more difficult. For me, I consider the change to a timing chain a benefit, so will probably (some day) order a dealer-chipped TT2.0 (meteor gray).

Does anyone have any comments on the switch to a timing chain in the 2010 TT?
I guess it basically means that the 2010 TTS is really a 2009 model.

If you build a TT with the same equipment that is included in the TTS (Mag ride, S-Line) and then add the Stasis Tune you will be pretty close to the same price of the TTS and still not have have the TTS extras or prestige. Also, you should keep in mind re-sale (or residual values if you're considering leasing) the TTS is the better buy. However, if you're considering a base TT and don't care about the extras it's just a economical decision based on wants vs. needs.

Concerning the Timing belt vs chain .... it's just another required service item that you have to deal with.....are you discounting the TT or TTS because the S-Tronic requires higher cost fluid maintenance? ....it's the same argument.

What? Is this true? I need to know more about this, are you in BC? What dealer is that?
TIA

I got this info from both the sales and service people at Open Road Audi in Vancouver. It is apparently a new arrangement with StaSis. My Salesman is Charles Tomozer, a really good guy.

Sounds like you TT guys have a tough choice when output numbers begin to match from standard to S . I do agree with cory_can, when you consider the other upsells included with the TTS, it would cost as much or more to build an S. I am partial to forced induction, so that would be the way I lean, much more tunability in the future, if/when the turbo fails

I just drove the new TT2.0 with the DSG, and while it is a stunning tranny and extremely quick, I really missed the total involvement of clutch and gears, throttle and brakes. I'll blip my own throttle for a while yet, thank you very much.
