Default Engine Oil

Just wondering what kind of Engine oil everybody is using on there audi's. I Have a 2003 a4 1.8T.

I was thinking of stocking up on 5w-30 Quaker State Advance full syntectic.
Its on sale at canadian tire for those who are interested.

In my opinion that is NOT a good oil: you should find oils that at least have the VW502.00 rating. I myself use oils that have the better extended-drain VW503.01 rating. Some of the more common 503.01 oils are Mobil 1 0W-40 (I've never seen it locally though), and German Castrol 0W-30 (which can be found in some Canadian Tires), the latter is an ester synthetic from what I understand. Currently I am using Motul 0W-40 in my B6, while running the Castrol in the family's B5 2.8 and C5 2.7T.

i use ams oil 5w40 european formulait seems to work good in my car, and ams oil is a way better name then the castrol you ussually buy.

Amsoil is a true synthetic, whereas many of the "synthetics" out there don't use PAO stocks and are simply refined to the point of being classed as a synthetic. Oil refined from this process is called Hydrowaxes and is not a true synthetic oil. Hydrowaxes are very cheap to produce and are known as Group-III lubricants. Castrol syntec is an example of this group. The Amsoil products and Mobil 1 products are Group IV lubricants.

there, that's my input.

The TOTL RS200 (Mannheim) oil from Frisco Auto PArts is the best I've seen for a Class 1 syth. oil. Better than Amsoil racing or Redline!

I use LubroMoly. I depends which season you are doing your oil change in order to decide which rating is best. All I know is that LubroMoly oil is a European company that seeks approval from each of the major German car companies like BMW and Audi. On each bottle it will say who has approved it and what not. Screw Canadian Tire. When you drive a piece-a- GM then that is the place to buy what you need. When you drive German cars, that place is only good for head/tail light bulbs and cleaning supplies.

Amsoil is good stuff but its expensive, I guess you get what you pay for sometimes. A good alternative is Mobil 1, lots of Audi people like to use it while most avoid the Castrol that they sell at the dealer.

Under the Audi Care Maintenance plan, dealer is using Castrol Syntec 5W40.
Unless I would be willing to cough up the cash for an alternative (which I'm not), my 2 babies (B6 S4 and B7 A4 2.0T) are getting lubed up on castrol until the Audi Care expires!

Yes, I too am finding that the more expensive oils are working much much better in my B3 Passat 16v. The big surprise is so how well Tufoil helps at startup and for mileage. I am getting almost 1 MPG more on my 700km std. 'loop' with cruise on, etc (it needs to be replaced at every oil change as well). Lucas fuel cleaner does wonders for the motorcleanliness! I am looking into super-filtering my oil, kinda like the Amsoil micro filter system, but just doing it every 1000 or so manually with my 1-micron filter bag kit.
