I loved the way it sounded and having had the resonator removed, if you don't enjoy the "louder' setup all the time, stick with a resonated setup. These cars sound absolutely fantastic with a modified exhaust.
There are about 4 or 5 full exhaust options. Borla is a name I never hear with the best performing B6/7 S4s. May sound great though.

The real key is to address the downpipes. Piggies, at the least, are required to gain ANY power from the car.

If you get a chip and catback, you're going to gain very little. You may lose power, with many of the horrible chip options for our cars.

Well, it is what it is...just the observations and experiences of someone who has probably read/posted more on forums for this platform than anyone else on the planet. I've absorbed lots of information during the past 3-4 years, and there are some really simple rules. Follow them, as others have, and your car will have performance success. Experiment with random companies who have done no research/shown no commitment to our platform, and you're tossing coins up in the air. Potentially lots of coins

As it's been a long time since i've done any research on this topic and not worth much time any longer. I had researched this topic to death a long time ago.

One of the primary companies who does these exhaust builds utilizes a Borla setup and that''s exactly what i copied.

Bassani, Borla, anything with a deep sound is going to sound ....mind the sexual term...."orgasmic" on your car. These engines have a very distinctive sound compared to an american v8 sound.

Best of luck with whatever you choose....cool cars nonetheless

I read this thread with great thoughts, and yes the Fast Intentions is bigger and better, but not everyone is going for the extra 70hp and 70ft-lbs of torque... (even tho we all should be!! lol) I thought about buying the Fast Intentions pipes, but the cost of getting to me was about $1600 plus whatever duties/customs/taxes... I just purchased the APR catback from Kinetic Motorsports in BC and it cost me $1350 taxes and shipping in... very good price.... Down the road I may do the downpipes, altho I think I'll try the 'piggies' mod first (plus I like cutting and welding) but the full header solution is fairly expensive, that's around a 8-10hr job in a shop, (@$100 that adds up quick!) Most shadetree mechanics can install the downpipe back exhaust or catback exhaust themselves... just sayin. I believe you when you say that the 2.5" is much better, but for most folk I'd say the "lesser" options, Neuspeed, APR, AWE, ect should fit the bill just fine... I'll probably eat my words later when I want some sort of twin turbo set up with nitrous... haha.

I'm running the AWE Exhaust with the down pipes, the sound is sublime.

I priced that out too... I went down to a local muffler shop and asked about a 2.5" mandrel bent custom exhaust with a x pipe similar to what fast intentions is running... they said minimum $2,000. Mass production is key... the exhaust systems available are priced reasonably so I wouldn't bother trying to get some shop do it for you, unless you work there... lol. And I'm sure all the R&D that goes into these exhaust systems for the sound/flow/ect... just can't be made up for in a one-off exhaust.

Just my 2 cents.

APR makes good stuff. Sound will be solid, drone will be minimized and performance will still be fine, just not best. Big deal. Be happy, and post up some sound clips on youtube for us to hear.

Something else for folks to consider is the MAGNAFLOW. They have a 2.5" exhaust with X pipe and it's only about $750.

yeah, Fast intentions is beautiful, but expensive.

for downpipes, if you're in a NO EMISSIONS TESTING province, get Milltek CATLESS downpipes. NO CATS. They're like $600...are 2.5". They have a neck down but you can have that cut off and weldin a 2.5" piece to mate up to 2.5" exhaust.
