Default 2001 A6 2.7T need help for inspection

Hi everyone! I'm currently looking at a 2001 A6 2.7T and I was wondering what I'm suppose to look for, making sure I have no suprises later on? Also one headlight has to be replace so I thought I'd replace both of them by aftermarkets because they outta be cheaper then the original ones, have any ideas wich ones would be best? Thanks a lot!

Mileage, it should be over 160K, so time to get new turbos/timing belt
Light is HID or Halogen, HIDs are more expensive, wiring harness is different in each case too
See if you can get someone with a VAG COM pull out controller stats

Audi ownership requires specific mental state - cheap solutions are proven to cost more down the road.
For very temporary solution ore sell - go for the cheapest ( if you have the courage).

Cool thanks! I've done a scan and basically the car is fine so I bought it about 2 weeks ago. But now I've got a problem...I seem to be losing some preston between the engine and transmission under de gasket. Everything seems dry, and it seem to be coming only from the lower part of the gasket...But I don't know how preston could leak from there. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be? Cause I don't want to take out the engine + transmission for nothing or for the wrong thing. Thanks!

Try to wash the engine well and dry it as well do not start it untill it's dry 100%. It could be old stuff just appered after the inspection

Regards,

Hopefully it's not Prestone Coolant as 2.7T is supposed to use G12 Coolant.

Can you clarify where the leak is?

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's G12 coolant that's leaking as the reservoir is always going dry after a month or so. I have to keep putting coolant in every week. I've jacked the car so I could go under and see better but I still can't seem to see from where it's leaking, I'll try washing it tomorrow afternoon and see if I get any luck.

What I see anyways, the leaks seems to be coming for the connection between engine and transmission. But that couldn't be, because there's isn't any G12 coolant in there. I'll give you some news the next day.

One thought... shine a light under the intake to see if the after-run pump or hose connections to the pump are leaking coolant. If so, there will be obvious puddles of red coolant and / or white dried up track marks where coolant was dripping.

Hey! Yeah I finally had a good check on it and it came from the collant temperature unit. Now I've replaced the unit and placed somme gasket maker around it so that it won't leak anymore...But now, it semms to still be leaking from the same place, I don't know how, plus it's leaking all the way back to the middle section of the exhaust! How could it go in the exhaust system...I just don't get what's happening...Anyway of you know something??

Oh and I have to point out that I possibly have an exhaust leak near the exhaust headers...sound pretty loud from there...Plz tell it's anything BUT a cracked engine...
