A friend of mine with 2003 S8 -( 90 k km) got in an accident - drove over a rock on the road that hit his car and damaged the transmission, converters, some suspension components.
The insurance (car is fixed by dealers) offers him the options:
- used transmission (from scrap yard), 6 months warranty - for free.
- new transmission - live warranty - for $2700 .
What would you suggest to be done?
(converters are coming from Ingolstadt).
Next thing is that there is no body structural integrity assessment done - the insurance company is offering one step at a time.
No wheel alignment done either.
(Initially the insurance company allowed just the transmission pan to be replaced).
The bill is piling and there is no final estimation at this point.
"The insurance (car is fixed by dealers) offers him the options:

Who pays $2700? The insurance or him? How long does he plan on keeping the car?
If he is one of those people that hold on to it for a long time I would go with New! If he is not going to keep it I would go with Used and sell the car once its fixed!
Thats what i mean by it depends, I like to have new things and you get lifetime warranty mind you when you sell the car you may get $500 more for that lifetime warranty! vs putting in a used tranny
