New 09 A3 2.0T Quatro Engine Sounds?

Good Day, I am please to become a new Audi owner for the first time. I just picked up a new 2009 Audi A3 2.0T Quatro and love it so far. Handles amazingly and has quite the little kick under the peddle for a small 4 cylinder engine. My question is that threw out acceleration you can definitely feel the turbo engaging at the higher rpm's but for some reason i also hear a quiet hissing almost like rustling leaves at 2500-3000rpm in 4th and the then again in 5th? Is this normal? Is it the turbo making that noise? I don’t hear any other sounds threw out any other rpm or gear except for those two times. Any thoughts?

Same here. Picked up a A3 quattro this weekend and the first thing I noticed driving home from the dealer is a buzzing noise coming from the engine at precisely 2200-2500rpm range. I thought the engine is just new so I gave it a few days to 'break-in' but the noise is still there no matter how hard I press on the gas. The noise almost sounds like something is loose and vibrating.

I called the dealer and they said to arrange for a test drive with a technician to check it out. The salesman insists there is no issue. I want to hear from other new owners before I bring it in.

its common with the new 2009 TFSI engine. i had that sound since day 1. others have reported the same observation.

Just picked mine up and heard the same sound. Called by salesman but haven't heard back yet. Great car - hope this can be resolved.

I just picked up mine last week. The same noise as all of you commented on. It may be 'normal' but I'd rather not have to listen to it. I am bringing mine in soon to have some work done (winshield damaged during shipping) and inquire re/ the sound. I'll let you know what I find out. Appreciate the same from you guys.

What does yours sound like? I would consider it normal if it sounds like 'hissing' from the turbo as one poster said. It might actually be cool but mine sounds like a rattling sound as if something is loose and vibrating.

Its the rattling. I owned a Jetta 1.8T previosly and that turbo hissed, this one rattles.

I contacted Audi corporate (you can send them an email through their website) as I've been waiting over a wk to hear back from the dealer. I let them know that I was concerned with the turbo noise and they are going to look into it (I actually got a call back). It might help if you guys do the same, they will probably take this issue more seriously if they know its not an isolated incident. Tell me what you think.

I was hoping the sound will go away after the break-in period. Did you send the e-mail thru audi.ca website?

Has anyone noticed this sound on their 2009 tester cars?

I sent the email through audi.ca (link under contact us). I don't think it will go away after break in, the break in is really only for the engines internals (nothing that would vibrate, I hope). It's funny, I don't remember noticing it on the tester. I tested the fwd version but I don't see how that would make a difference.
