Default bov/diverter valves

I have a 2001 S4, bone stock, one of my diverter valves is broken, just leakin air.
I'd like to replace them with some better ones, but (this might be corney) i want the WOOSH sound! i love turbo(s) and i've always wanted that. i've seen the diverters with springs that are adjustable, but the weakest spring i've seen is 15lbs. Stock i should be running 8-10 is changing the valves going to hurt my motor>? i dont even have a chip....yet>
Any reccomendations on valves or what to do>???

The Audi engine intake is closed loop and air metered so they will not like most BOV's.

I've heard of some folks running a half and half without throwing codes... but I wouldn't do it.

Most recommend Audi 710N's, they are good and not near as expensive as aftermarket valves.

Look at the last alpha character of the part number on your S4 valves. 710A's and B's are prone to premature failure. I bought my S4 with 47K KMs and both valves had already failed. I didn't know about 710N's at the time so I am running Stratmosphere valves.

The valve spring pressure is independent of boost pressure as the valve open / close is operated by engine vacuum, unless you run the valves reversed

You do not really need adjustable spring pressure in DVs, even with StageIII engine. Try a pair of 710N's. Your 2.7T will be happy with performance if you can live with no woosh.

You like the woosh and want to make your turbo sound better too....Get an intake... that is the only proper way to make that woosh sound more audible. BOV is not the way ago and is a complete mistake.

Just as a side note a BOV doesn't immediately identify a valve as blowing off to the atmosphere.

Only VW/AUDi guys make this distinction between a BOV and diverter valve no other group of turbo enthusiasts call them a diverter valve when they recirculate and a BOV (blow off valve) when they go off to the atmosphere.

The Greddy Type-S on my Talon is a BOV. Greddy calls it a BOV and everybody in the world calls it a bov. The talon has a MAF just like the 1.8T and must be recirculated into the intake. Just because it's recirculated doesn't then make it a diverter valve. It's a blow off valve.

The valves on a stock S4 are blow off valves, they are also diverter valves, whatever it's the same thing. Thats like saying I don't drive an automobile, I drive a car!

It's all the same, lets get over calling it a diverter valve vs. a BOV. It is all the same, weather you recirculate or dump to the atmosphere is the distinction. A Diverter valve can be atmospheric and a BOV can be recirculated.

Sorry had to vent.

^ calm down. LOL anywhere you go to any audi dealer tthey call it a diverter valve, any other forum it is a diverter valve, so lets stick to diverter valve as it diverts the air and it does not blow it off out of the system. I know you hate me, but help the other guys out that do not know the diffrence as it is referanced even in the repair manuals as a diverter valve, as well as when you buy the part.

Oh I know trust me. I bought my first Talon in 95 when turbo cars were few and far between except from Chyrsler. It was the same with the DSM crowd and Chrysler/Mitsu but they called it a "pop off valve" vs. a diverter. That went on for a few years till eventually everybody gave it up and just referenced weather it was recirculated or not.

I'm gonna put two valves on my 1.8T. A forge and blow it off, and an HKS with the recirculation kit and make it into a diverter. That should start some conversations...

HKS USA SSQV Recirculation Kit - There is a sweet diverter valve.

hahaha, ok enough, I'll stop.
