VAG-COM and Adblue

VAG-COM and Adblue
Hey Everyone,
Been a while since I posted here, just busy with life. Our beloved 2012 Q7 TDI had the Adblue warning come on (yes I am kicking myself for not being on top of this). I have a few questions of those with knowledge on this:
- I have heard that the TDI, if it gets to zero adblue in the tank, will not start the next time you go to start it - is this correct?
- I have also heard I can not just top up the adblue once the warning comes on to make the warning go away - tha tI need to take it to an Audi dealer to reset adblue warning once it has been topped up with adblue - is this correct?
The dealership here wants $110 to do all this, but the heartburn comes in that they can't get our vehicle in until late November - which won't work.
For those of you with a VAG-COM, can the VAG-COM reset the adblue warning once you have filled it? I'm thinking I want to invest the money in a VAG-COM, instead of the dealership's Christmas party, but this would be a key piece of functionality that I would want to be able to have. Please advise.
Also, where would you recommend buying the Adblue or is the dealership the only option?
Many thanks,
Rob

Re: VAG-COM and Adblue
Rob, I know it maybe a little late New to the forum myself, but answer question, which I'm sure you may know by now! You don't need to reset the warning. When you add the adblue, the warning resets itself. I use H2Blu from NAPA at $16.00 a jug and it last me at lease six month. I drive 100km per day for work. If you do run out of adblue, the engine will shut down on you.

Re: VAG-COM and Adblue
Thanks fsrowsell. Yes, I went and bought some of the stuff from Crappy Tire when it was on sale, and I bought one 1L just from VW so that I could thread onto the adblue reservoir. I ended up just taking the lid off the 1L container and kept refilling it from the 1 gallon jugs. Eventually got it all topped off and yes indeed - the light went out.
Many thanks for posting this all the same, will hopefully help others!
