I agree, has to be installation problem, and not improper brake pad selection for the Q5. I am proof of it as I have over 30k and never ever heard one squeak!

Also, not many members here are responding to this subject, therefore assuming this problem occurs very seldom.

I took my S4 into the Audi, they inspected the break and installation and said it's perfect. It's a live with situation. I hate it but what can you do.

Here is what I think happened: Audi uses brakes from different vendors, and when main is out of stock, then they briefly substitute with temp one to keep production going. I think I got temp vendor brake...

I'm in the same boat as Tomashek. My '11 Q7's brakes squeak like crazy when coming to a slow stop all the time and its driving me crazy. If I take it to the dealer I'll probably get the same answer thats its normal. I'm sorry but a $75K+ car should not have squeaky brakes no matter what the drivers driving style is like.

I'm gearing up again to bring this to dealer's attention. This time I'll try Newmarket dealer, see if that change anything... Sometimes one could get different results with different dealers, which is what I'm hoping to achieve here.

Dropped off my Q yesterday to be serviced for oil consumption, and got an A4 2.0T 2012 with no milage as a replacement.

Noticed some squeeking of the breaks! Wow, I now understand what you guy's are going through.. While waiting for the A4 , I spoke to 2 Q5 owners and both confirmed no break squeeking. (24k and 12k )

This sure is a mystery!

Are you guys for real? I explained break issues in such a way that you'd have to do a minimal amount of work to reap the benefit of a lifetime of knowledge, and you still call it a "mystery". I could solve all of your guys' break issues in an hour tops; you guys have spent much more than that amount of time complaining about it or taking your car to clueless mechanics.

/tough love

Once again, bed the brakes - properly. If that doesn't work, buy a set of decent pads. Like it or not, you guys bought cars with a very restricted budget, and the OEM pads on vehicles at this price point are rather poor.
