Remote Starter Installed!

Remote Starter Installed!
I picked up my new Q5 2.0T premium plus last week and just got my remote starter installed yesterday at a small local auto electronics shop here in Edmonton. I chose an AstroStart with SmartStart so there isn't a key fob for the starter, it all runs off an app on my phone.
Since I have the convenience key feature on my Q5 I didn't want to carry another key fob around so Smart Start works perfectly for me. Essentially I can start/stop, lock/unlock my Q5 from anywhere as long as there's cell service.
The only thing I don't really like is that when the vehicle is started by the remote starter and you walk up to it you can't simply open the doors with the convenience key feature, you have to unlock the doors through the smartstart app. You could also remove the actual key from the key fob and manually unlock the doors in case your phone battery dies, but using the app is easier. Once you open the doors though you can just jump right in and drive away as long as you have the convenience key fob on you.
Other than that the starter works beautifully. It also has a handy SmartPark feature. When you lock your doors it marks your location using your phones gps, you can recall this location and see where your car is.
Here's a shot of what the app looks like:

Don't have an Iphone but I can relate to the additional "key" required for the remote start.
When will be the time that the remote start can be a factory installed option?
I have the Python remote start that the dealer was recommanding and did installed prior to delivery.
I am still learning how to deal with the convenience key and the remote.
In my case, if the car was remote started it will shtudown the engine as soon as I unlock and open the door. Sometimes the doors will lock again right away.
When I get in the driver seat, I can push the start/stop button and drive away or I can use my key (Audi) and start the car.
It was not the case with my previous car and remote (NuStart). The car would keep running until I hit the brake pedal but then my previous car did not had the "convenience" feature.
I have played with the MMI setting for the car locking options so maybe a poor combination of setting makes the car to lock again when I close the door.
I will continue to experiement with the seeting and the remote.
My standard routine is:
1) Start the car using the remote from the office or home.
2) Walk to the car and open the trunk to put my suitcase in. Here I want to use the automatic hatch openning feature using my Audi key button but it does not work. Maybe I need to change the locking setting in the MMI. When it does not work, I unlock the doors using my Audi key (not the un-lock button of the remote); The engine stops; Doors lock automatically (again); Need to unlock again using the Audi key; Open the trunk; put the suitcase in; Get in the car; Start the engine.
This forces me to have my Audi key at hand instead of in my coat pocket which defeats the convenience feature all together.
Kind of ennoying especially if you are coming from the grocery store with bags and you want the hatch (trunk) to open automatically.
Anyway, it looks like you got a nice application there.

Re: Remote Starter Installed!
GT475,
You can open the trunk with the AUX button on the Python starter.
You should also be able to press the "f" (Function) button one time and control the cabin temperature with the 4 top buttons (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) so you can heat up the inside a bit more in winter before you get to it.
If this does not work, your dealer did not program the remote to it's full capabilities.
You can try programming it yourself by reading the manual but I suggest having them do it so nothing gets messed up.
Your sequence of events should be:
1- start car remotely with python
2- open trunk with python
3- unlock doors with python
4- press the start button once (car will turn off)
5- press the start button a second time it will detect audi key and start for good.
In other words, your audi key shouldn't have to leave your jacket pocket
---------------------------------
When I got the starter, the iphone app was not available. I only saw it when I picked up my Q5 and wished I could of had it instead of the 2way python.
The python as really nice range but it's limited like any other remote starter. Just yesterday I gave it a go from inside the movie theater room and the signal did not reach my vehicle.
The IPhone app would have worked.
It's too bad because it gets cold in Montreal lol...
