Q5, Winter Tires and Rims

Re: Q5, Winter Tires and Rims
Yes, lots of info on winter tires, just search.
Personally, I recommend Toyo winter tires. I am on my second set on different vehicles, and I am still amazed by them.
The 18" size for the Q5 cost about $250 each, but worth every penny!
Great traction, and with ground walnut shells in the rubber, they don't wear fast like blizzak's with their air bubbles.
(I put 8000kms on my Toyo's last winter, and 1000kms so far this season, and they still look new!)
My 2cents.
Cheers,
Anders

+1 - Usually best practice is to put it on when the high during the day is no more than 7 degrees for at least 3-4 consecutive days. I am guessing not this but next weekend.

Re: Q5, Winter Tires and Rims
I got winter tires and rims for my 2012 Q5(3.2) for about CAD 2850 with 1 year free storage of tires .(Genuine 17" Audi Rims and Michelin latitude Alpin HP).

Re: Q5, Winter Tires and Rims
Got Pirelli Scorpions on mine and WOW what a difference in handling and snow /ice when we head west to the mountains to snow shoe! It did make the difference one morning when someone made an unsafe lane change and hit the brakes directly in front of us on an icy overpass. Without the winter tires we would have have not stopped in time and would have creamed the idiot who stopped in front of us.
It was then I wished just once the Q5 had OEM RPG's that one could launch from the drivers seat! Lol

Replica rims are from Macpek:
http://catalogue.macpek.com/roue.aspx?code=AVW860B/C
The one major downside to those rims will be keeping them clean in the winter.
Total, including rims and tires, and including taxes, was about 2000$.

Re: Q5, Winter Tires and Rims
Hey, I want to get some summer rims that are a little sharper than the stock audi rims. I get my Q5 in a few weeks and was thinking of getting the dealer to put my winters on the rims that come with the vehicle and then mount the all-seasons on a nice set of rims for summer.
Any input on that idea? My main question is how well will the stock audi rims stand up to winter salt, sand etc!??!
Other option is just buy a set of modest winter rims for the snow tires and keep the audi rims for summer.
Thanks.
