Q5 Water Pump Recall

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
Other than asking the dealer to check the VIN, are there clues that would suggest that the Q5 water pump needs to be replaced? e.g. engine temp spikes on the dashboard display? funny sounds? noises? thanks for any tips.

No clues whatsoever. However, I told the dealer that I know people that their Q5 although not on the list but experienced the same problem and I do travel a lot on highway and out of town , I certainly do not appreciate if this happens while I am away, they are nice enough just to replace it. Good Luck.

LMcQueen: The impeller may start craking before complete failure so inspect the ground for leaking coolant before you get in the car (that's how i discovered the problem) - you may also want to check the coolant level on the expansion tank from time to time. I never noticed any sounds.

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
My Pump went last night at 5pm, luckily I was about 20 minutes from the dealer and it was bloody cold outside so she never even got close to overheating. Got her back less than 24 hours later with a new pump (metal this time) good as new.
One thing I noticed about 20 mins before the pump went... there was no heat at all to speak of in the car even with the heater maxed out. Other than the lack of heat (felt like it was blowing in outside air at -15), there were no warning lights etc... Then I got to where I was going, turned off the car for 5 minutes, got back in and turned it on and the warning signals came on the screen saying Pull over and Check coolant levels. I knew then the pump had failed. Luckily my dealer had a few in stock and had me up and running in a jiffy. Even offered a loaner to get me home, but I had already arranged to carpool with my wife.
All good and now I don't have to worry about it failing on a long roadtrip.

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
Happened to pop the hood the other night and noticed that the coolant level was well below the MIN line so took the car in. Got the water pump replaced. I asked if this is the problem they had a recall for but they said no. =/
4th visit to them in a year.. =D

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
water pump just went tonight, I was 10 mins away from home, so I just drove home anyway. Now have to wait until Monday.
The closest dealer is about 10 mins away from me, do you think I should just drive there instead of calling a road assist to tow the car?
