Q5 Water Pump Recall

Q5 Water Pump Recall
Apparently there is a recall for the 2009/2010 3.2 Q5 (and a few other Audi models) for the water pump. The plastic impeller that was spec'd is failing and being replaced with an alloy replacement regardless of whether or not the original unit has failed.
After I heard about Ed's Q5 coolant leak I called my dealer who confirmed my VIN is on the recall list. Not sure if it's every 3.2 that was produced so I would contact your dealer to have them check. Better to get it replaced before it fails.

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
I am one of the unlucky ones, my VIN is on the list. Having said that, they still want me to go in and first run diagnostics and then come in ANOTHER day to change the part. I had to argue why they can't change the part on the same day. They told me they have to order. I told them if there is a recall it's a good idea to "stock" up on parts.
I never understand this approach.

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
That's messed up. So because of Audi's mistake in using a part that is defective you have to take your car in twice? Even though the recall campaign tells the dealer what is wrong with your car and what parts they need to order? Sounds like they are just trying to ding Audi for two visits. My dealer has the parts on order from the phone call I made and the car will be fixed on the day of my appointment. You should call another dealer and see what they can do for you.

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
Looks like it.
I told her I said obviously the water pump is a part you'll be changing quite frequently over the next coming months so perhaps you should have it in stock.
She did said even though he VIN is on the list, it doesn't necessarily mean your car is impacted hence the diagnostics but if it is, you still have to make the second trip which makes no sense.

Re: Q5 Water Pump Recall
I have a 2010 3.2 L engine Q5, took delivery in Oct/2009. I just checked with my dealer and they said mine is not on their list. Furthermore, they said it depends on the production date etc. I am not sure whether I can trust them or not. Anyway, I will keep my eyes on the water pump.
