Q5 Service Extras!!

Q5 Service Extras!!
Just took my 2012 leased Q5 for the 40,000km service. As additional servicing I was offered removal of the brake dust from the calipers for only $400. Also an offer where the injectors would be cleaned. Without this apparently the engine could run roughly!! How about a $15 injector cleaner from CT?? Normal price for injector cleaning $350, but there was a special offer that day for only $250. Lucky me. I did not avail myself of these scams, sorry 'special offers'. Is this typical and I can expect more offers of unnecessary maintenance in the future. After all these guys have to make a crust!! Pity as it spoils the experience.

Re: Q5 Service Extras!!
Do not clean injectors or brake dust from Audi dealership. If you are running the specified fuel as per manual, you only need to do this if you observe significant performance issues. PLUS, if there were issues, this is easily resolved by yourself.
For the pads, you can pull the tires off, put a drain pad under the rotors and spray brake cleaner fluid like crazy all over the place until no more residue comes from the brakes. This is a 1hr job for all tires!
For the injectors, if you've been running the proper fuel...It's bullcrap. There is no reason to clean until you observe a performance issue as I mentioned.
Last but not least, if you have no issues with money/well off or spending money on your Audi (even on possible unnecessary work or work you could do yourself) ignore this response.
Hope this helps.

Re: Q5 Service Extras!!
Thanks for all your advice. As I suspected, I was offered unnecessary work and not exactly cheap, as the regular cost would have been around $800. At the first major service I advised the dealer that the gear change (especially changing down) was sometimes jerky. When I went to pick up the car, they told me that the engine and/or gearbox had not been aligned correctly. So they had taken out the engine and g/b and aligned them correctly. What I am to make of this? The car left the factory with an incorrectly installed engine and g/b? Or was the dealer carrying out unnecessary work? The 'jerkiness' was improved but the first change down of the day is now jerky again.

Re: Q5 Service Extras!!
Sounds like they made an improvement but underlying issue is still there. Take it back and have them check things again or utilise another dealer for a 2nd opinion. if still not satisfied, take up with the dealer management and/or Audi Canada.

Re: Q5 Service Extras!!
When the Q5 was new, when driving through a residential area where I live, the road was flat, I had a constant throttle opening and a constant speed, but the gearbox would start changing up and down through the gears. Passengers would ask "Why is it doing that". I had no answer. But it was just a phase. Occasionally it still does seem to change gears at an odd times, or to hold a gear for no particular reason. I do think that 8 gears is over-engineering, and the car changes gears annoyingly frequently.

Re: Q5 Service Extras!!
injectors would have been replaced anyway if you had Audicare. This comes around the 48 or 64k service i believe.
As for the last comment, my 6sp automatic would occassionally forget to shift, and it would wind up until I let off the gas (and no, i was not WOT)
