Hi I just bought a Q5 and want to replace the fog lights and HID to 6000k. The guy told me my factory hid is D1S and my Fogs are H7. So that is what I bought. I just read this post and I am worried I bought the wrong bulb size. SO the fog is acutaly H11? What uses H7? My Low beam if I don't have factory option for HIDs? Does anyone have a link to the specs on our light bubls?

Hey M450: Congrats on your new baby.

So the Q5 HID head light uses D1S 4300 K. 4300 K is the brighetest HID but it's more on the yellowish side. 6000K is a little less bright but has a nice blue tint. I am considering changing it as well.

The HID is 110% H11. I changed mine last week and trust me it's H11. It was REALLY easy to change them both. If you don't have the S-line, just pull out the cover of the fog light with your hands don't be scared it wont break. Let me know if you need instructions.

Good luck.

One thing I like to add to my note above. 6000K bulbs are about 60-100 dollars and really easy to install BUT, 4300K is the brightest HID light output. 6000K looks cooler because of the blue tint but if range and visibility is what you're looking for almost all factory HID's on luxury cars use 4300. I was and have been debating if I should go to 6000K but I do a lot of night and winter driving an ultimately I want range and more light output so I might just stick with the 4300 for now.

I also have read a lot about making sure your battery is disconnected when changing HID bulbs so watch out for that. I am not sure yet who exactly to disconnect the Q5s battery.

Let us know what happens. Try and take some pictures if you can.

It's too bad you're in Vancouver you could have met up with him and saved the shipping. Oh well. So here it goes, on the interior you have 2 lights on the second row, each light has 2 bulbs that 4 bulbs in the front you have the big light in the centre, it uses 2 of those long lights and 2 small ones so far that 8. If you want to change the trunk lights that 3 so far 11. I always changed the 4 lights under the doors (4) and 1 in the Glove compartment that's 5 total 16 lights, he charged me 10 dollars per light.

So think about what you want to change. Email him at extremebrightleds@gmail.com tell him exactly how many you need. Tell him you were referred to me by Ario with the black Q5 from Toronto and you want to do what he did so this way he'll know exactly what lights to send you. He will also tell you which auction of his you should close.

When you order let me know. I will probably take a video to send you on how to do it.

Oh I also bought my HID fog kit from him. He charged me 110. It's slim ballast hooked up to H11 3000K (amber) I wanted amber but he has others. The ballast is very tiny and light which is what you want because behind the fog lights you don't have much room to hide a ballast. It was very easy to do. I can tell you how to take the fog housing out.

So far my 4300 stock HID and the 3000K fogs like awesome. I spent a lot of time searching to see if I should change the stock HID to 6000K (this dude has it for 110 dollars a pair for the bulbs). Everyone kept saying 4300 is the brighter but 6000K has a tint of blue. I am not sure what to do I might skip it. I also popped the hood and learned to get to the bulbs you need to remove couple of stuff out of the way needs a TORX screw. I also read in some places you need to have the battery disconnected which totally resets all my radio and navi and phone settings which will suck large. Still on the fence though.

Let me know.

Cheers.

Almost forgot about the license plate LEDs. He has them, I can't recall his price. It's a bit tricky to install so when you order let me know and I'll tell you what you need. It's pretty quick though.
Also, NON of these lights trigger the computer.

there are 3 bulbs in the trunk? I only see 1 on either side. Also, do I need a decoder for hid fogs light? I originally order from someone someone they said I need H7 and they told me I need to buy decoder too to get rid of the error code. I am going to return H7 for H11 thanks for your help.

If you look in the trunk on the hatch door bottom left there is a 3rd light.

You don't need any decoder, any HID kit you get is error free. Just try and get a slim Ballast because there is not much room back there to hide it. It's really easy to do this. Amber is the best color for fog lights in my opinion.

On another note: I've been researching a lot on 6000K HID bulbs and apparently our stock 4300 is the brightest. If you go to 6K you loose 15% of your light but you'll get a tint of blue, if you go to 5000K you loose about 1.5% but you'll loose the yellowish tint we have now and get pure white. I am considering the 5K.

Let me know how it goes. I'll tape you instructions and post it on youtube.
