Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Take your car to an independent Audi specialist and have them to put Ate plastilube brake anti squeal compound or Permatex Disc Brake Quite on the back of each pad.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
The brakes on my Q5 - with less than 35000 miles - are a joke!! They squeak and squeal so bad that I am embarrassed to drive it!! I have taken it back to the dealer 3 times and this time, the noise is actually worse than it was when I took it in.
The service manager was kind enough to give me a pamphlet on Audi brake systems - and said there really isn't anything that can be done with the noise.
Nice.
$50000 vehicle that sounds like a school bus when it comes to a stop.
To say I'm unhappy is an understatement!! Lesson learned - I will buy a Lexus next time. Maybe sooner than later if these brakes keep driving me crazy the way they are now!

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
I've had varying degrees of squeaks and squeals since the day I drove it off the lot. At first, I was adamant about having it corrected, but it seems to be an issue that plagues many Q5's. After almost a year of ownership, I have seen squeals come and go, but it has been brutal since our temperatures plummeted. It doesn't really bother me too much, but I'll be bringing it up the 25k service which is a few months away. I know what kind of reaction I will get, though.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
I will give this a try.
like I said, find a nice quiet place or large parking lot. Run it hard and brake hard a few times. This takes the glaze off the pads and rotors and does not hurt anything. I was in the same boat until I burned in the brake. Yea 500000 car that squeals.. Pissed me off too but remember its an issue that can be cured without spending a dime

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Spoke with the salesman about the problem this morning and he seemed to think I should have had new brake pads put on already ... ? DH said he thinks that is crazy!
To add to my frustration - my Q5 has been taken in for service 16 times! Had a recall on the sunroof - then the sunroof rattled - heated seats quit working - had to take it back numerous times for that problem - and now the brakes. Granted, none of the issues have been serious and having to take it back for service so many times is more of an issue with the service department than the vehicle itself ...

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Its normal operation for all Audi's not just limited to the Q5's. The brake pads used have a mineral oil that glazes over the caliper and causes the noise once you apply the brake. You can burn that glaze off by driving the car up to 80km/h then hitting the brakes aggressively and not coming to a complete stop. Doing this 2-3 times will fix the issue until next time you hit the brakes hard and come to a complete stop this causes the "glazing"/coating

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
I drove my Q5 2.0T for over 100,000Km's and I never heard a peep from the brakes.. just my experience i'm not sure this is a normal thing that occurs.. I don't think so.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
This noise came up for me after I owned my car for 1 month only. That was last year. I think this is due to the special compound break pads combined with moisture and cold. Today is started again. I try to ignore it because I think is not a big deal and the noise appears at the first stop only.
